Meanwhile Kyrgios still hasn't lost a set to Djokovic. Some powerful players with big serves when "on" their game can cause many problems to Djokovic even when at his best.

Yes, as Kyrgios says, djokovic can’t be goat because he’s 2-0 vs nick. Have they met in slams?

Rafael nadal:

“I played against a player who did everything perfect,” Nadal said. “I know nobody playing tennis like this ever. Since I know this sport, I never saw somebody playing at this level.”

‘But it’d be unfair to say that Federer isn’t the best I’ve ever played against because the titles and his track record prove that to be the case.

‘But at a technical level, when Djokovic has been at the top of his game, I have to say that I’ve been up against an invincible player.’

But when Rafa said something about Nick's ability/talent, it is only diplomatic or wrong?

selective criteria. We can take his word for it, as Djoko is the toughest player for him...while he's had Fed's number for years.

Ok, so you think nadal is biased, what about berdych?

What he said after novak crushed him a few years back:

''I met somebody in the final who I've never seen before,'' Berdych said. ''I was just swept out from the court.''

''I probably played maybe over, what, 600 matches in my career, and I met guys like Andre (Agassi), Roger (Federer), all those probably in their best times,'' he said. ''But I have never, ever experienced anything like that.''

Yes you are right. They can cause problems to anyone.
But he didn’t face Novak at this level Nadal was talking about when saying „highest level ever“. Sadly for me Novak couldn’t reach that everytime.
He and also Nadal are no machines.

Nadal's and Berdych's testimonies are in line with what I've witnessed myself; Djokovic at his best is the nonpareil of tennis. As much as I admire Roger's elegance, effortlessness, and skill; as much as I respect Nadal's grit and competitiveness (not to mention ability), Novak dwarfs them both.

Both Berdych and Nadal have face Djokovic and Federer in their primes so something Djokovic is doing that is making them believe he has attained highest level ever.

Ever heard of recency bias? The next dominant #1 will be called the best ever by the masses too.

Djokovic is not called the best ever by the masses out of recency bias. Masses, as it is now, are mostly either Federer, or Nadal fans.. Djokovic is called the best ever by a relative minority, because at his best, he makes Nadal and Federer look pedestrian. It was much easier to downplay when he had five or six majors. Now he has only five or six majors to go before he stands on the very top of the all-time pyramid.

It's totally reasonable to point out no-one has ever played the game as well as Djokovic at his best. And the high probability that someone, someday will likely play the game even better than Djokovic at his best should not distract anyone from admitting that at the moment, he's probably the best ever.

It's so liberating.

And makes their fans cringe uncomfortably/laugh out of desperation too.

Are you 15 years old? Not meaning to offend but this is the type of stuff I'd read on a basketball board from Kobe fans who almost certainly had never watched the game before Kobe was playing. Sorry but the recency bias is a huge factor. Djokovic was off the map a year ago and people were just talking Federer and Nadal. Now they are scrubs again and someday probably soon Djokovic will be a scrub

Are you sure he makes Federer look pedestrian. Last I checked he just had a lot of trouble knocking off the version that is 10 years past his prime.

Indeed. He made Federer look pedestrian in the final. It wasn’t even close.

I can't believe think that. Roger looked the better on grass during a lot of that match. I concur with Britbox who said that what Djokovic did was play the big points better.

I don't think he did in the final we just watched, because it was super-tight, and there were surely times when Djokovic himself looked barely engaged. But sure, he's beaten Roger. He has actually kind of skunked Nadal more often than he has Roger. Match-ups. But you underline "at his best." Well, you really could say the same of all 3, could you not? They have each, at some point, made the others look "pedestrian." Depends on which point in the timeline and H2Hs you look.

I was being sarcastic. The match was very close and Roger had 2 match points.

Can you give examples of when he made Roger and Rafa look pedestrian? I have a suggestion. Can we create a thread on Petros Sampras? Even though he retired more than 10 years ago, I still have visions of him crushing opponents with his exquisite play.

why would i create a thread on Pete? he's a chimp.. Djokovic is my man, Pete would be humiliated by Novak. Go ahead create a thread on Pete if you want to.

Djokovic made Federer look pedestrian in AO 16, that 6-1,6-2 first sets, VERY pedestrian Fed.

Djokovic has made Nadal look pedestrian several times, but AO final is a good one to point too.

Djokovic = GOAT.

When did you dump Nadal? A few months ago, you told us that Nadal and Djokovic are your preferred players.

I've already gone on record saying that I like the idea of a "three-headed GOAT" - and that's pretty much no matter how their final resumes look, unless one is far ahead of the others. But each has their own "flavor of greatness." I also give a nod to Britbox's sentiment.

That said, I have no problem with the idea that Novak's peak form was better than Roger's or Rafa's, except with a couple caveats: One, Rafa on clay is the most fearsome player in tennis history; if we were to split players into their surface components, "Clay Rafa" is the easy call for GOAT. Secondly, Roger at his best was 2004-07...we don't know how that version would have faired against Novak at his best. For instance, imagine 2006 Roger vs. 2015 Novak.

Anyhow, Novak from Paris in 2014 (October) to Roland Garros in 2016 (May) was probably the most indomitable run I've ever seen: 134-9, a 93.7 Win% over a year and a half. Three of his nine losses were to Roger at non-Slams; he also beat Roger six times, with a walkover. Meaning, Roger in good but not his best ever form held his own against Novak at his very best. How would Roger at his very best have faired? We'll never know. But if 2015 Roger didn't embarass himself against Novak at his very best, maybe 2006 Roger would have at least equalled him? I would have favored peak Roger on grass and fast hards against anyone, ever; Novak would have the edge on clay and slow hards.

never have dumped Nadal, just man enough to admit when he's dominated, just as Stan made Novak look pedestrian in RG final. I'm man enough to admit it, you girls can't admit your player ever is made to look pedestrian.
