Stan is separating from his wife . I know that some will say this is personal matter and we are discussing tennis here. But in real life, everything is connected. The trouble in the family situation might possibly explain his early
exits in the last three Masters tourneys.

The couple have separated once before and then rejoined.

I think a "Tennisography" was done where it showed he pursued her, made her laugh, and they got married without really knowing one another! It was destined to fall apart IMO!

He was actually quite consistent from the beginning of this year until before IW (winning Chennai, Rotterdam, and reaching SF at AO.

So sad, I read his post on Facebook. It makes sense that his results would suffer. I am a firm believer that these guys are sensible and sensitive people, some more than others. Their private life does affect them.

Good luck to Stan, his wife and their little girl. Hopefully they find a happy medium where both of them will be in a healthy, friendly relationship for the sake of their kid, if nothing else.

Just saw the news myself. Sad to hear. Surely that has played a part on his results this year. Hope he can rebound quickly. Tough to go through though.

Wow, I did not know that Stan's separated wife, Iham, reads TF as well. Anyway, she strikes back . Among other things, she says there is no truth in the allegation that Stan's recent losses are due to separation.

I saw that article too. Yikes. :eyepop She basically says "his instability and wish to regain his freedom" are the causes. Maybe Wawrinka should have just not announced anything to the public. But is that possible for a player as well-known as he is? I doubt it. And so the dirty laundry gets aired out in public.

That's a strange link, but if that's her view, it isn't new. Stan left her before so he could concentrate on tennis, and there he goes again. A good conscientious geezer, making sure his Wow! factor comes ahead of his wife and kid...

^I found this bit interesting...

"Also, there are players - ranked higher than him - who are setting an example of family life value right infront of his eyes."

You don't have to be a genius to know who she's talking about there. Could this throw Mirka's alleged heckling at the O2 into new light? Women (and wives particularly) stick together. Perhaps she was upset with Stan given his behaviour with his wife? Just throwing it out there, as Mirka's behaviour didn't strike me as normal for her. Perhaps there was provocation...

^Yes indeed. It's the children that suffer. I well remember Mirka and Roger going to visit Tiger's ex after the marriage broke down. I'm sure that was Mirka showing solidarity with the wife. Could be the same again in this case

I always look at the tennis players with a bit of envy. Playing the greatest sport on earth, winning matches, climbing the rankings, winning tournaments and then finally winning a Grand Slam. During their match, they always show the wife/fiancee/girlfriend enjoy their success with them. I feel a bit of envy as I think that must be the greatest feeling to be able to be a Grand Slam tennis champion and enjoy the rewards of that with your loved one.
But then something like this happens and I'm reminded of what my father said to me. "The greatest man on earth is the man who can love and take care of his family throughout his life." You can have all the success and riches in the world and die with regrets. Or you can remain faithful and strong for your family and die with no regrets.
Just feeling a bit sad for the Wawrinka family right now. Such a great success story, but such a sad story that follows. Hope they can some place that they can be happy and rebuild their lives.

I guess Mirka don't like Stan's ex wife !!! she dislikes Stan so...Alexia is the one to pity in this case anyway

I think you're mis-reading my comment. I implied the opposite :puzzled

Thats exactly that came to my mind when I read this article. Her behavior was so unlike her..there were things going on behind the scenes

Some speculation from the press...

seems like trash journalism to me...
