QFs are set:

Fognini v. Chardy
Almagro v. Taro Daniel (Q)
Garcia-Lopez v. Giraldo
Gimeno-Traver v. L. Mayer

------

Fognini and Chardy both doing well of late, though I saw Chardy's 1st serve pct. wasn't much last night. Should be the match to watch. I like Fognini to go all the way. Almagro is looking for the only title in the "Golden Swing" that he hasn't won.

Chardy defeated Carreno-Busta who has had that spectacular rise last year, mainly due to his wins on clay on the challenger tour.
Also, the other promising young man from Argentina, DelBonis lost today to the japanese man Daniel with an american name (Dad is American, Mom is Japanese).
Daniel I mentioned yesterday defeated also Bellucci, therefore, he might be someone to watch from here on.

All interesting highlights of the tournament. Thanks for pointing them out. Taro Daniel is certainly rising a bit from nowhere. I've still got my eye on Carenno Busta, too.

Me too. A defeat to Chardy is not a step back, rather part of the learning process. He will have to deal with a lot better players on the main tour than he did last year.
Pablo took down in the R1 Volandri, who might be a veteran, but he always plays better on clay than his ranking would suggest.

^Agreed. He's making strides, Carreno Busta. Going forward, the heavier draw is on the top half.

SF matches:

Fognini v. Almagro

Giraldo v. L. Mayer

_________

Most likely the winner of Fognini v. Almagro takes the title.

Fabio defeats Nico in a dramatic match: 6-4, 1-6, 7-6.
Fab is a hoot, as usual, he broke his racquet literally in 2 pieces, on his foot after he lost a marathon rally. Right away, Nico makes a DF and has an awful UE and gets brokan:laydownlaughing.
After that Fab gets broken. This is how the 3rd set started.

I couldn't get a stream for it. Disappointing, because I bet it was fun. Thanks for the mini-recap, herios. Final tomorrow v. Mayer. I'd be shocked if Fognini doesn't win it. Forza, Fabio!

I couldn't get a stream, either. So I phollowed the ATP scoreboard. Phognini had two match points serving at 40-15 leading 5-4 in the third and he ended up losing serve, only to eventually win the match in a third set tiebreak. Phorza Phabio!

Fognini on a roll. He is 4-0 right now in first set. Hope Mayer does not eat Bage.

Dominant win for Fog. Only lost 7 points on serve.

It was the first final ever for L. Mayer, he might have been overwhelmed by the moment.

Really happy for Fabio. I like him, the fact that he wears his feelings on his sleeves, is engaging.
He has a new confidence since he has won his first event last year, I am sure more to come for him.
Perhaps one of these days you will see him even in the top 10
