DelBoner is playing too I see. Haven't heard much from him since he beat Fed last summer. Hope he does well here.

Christian garin is playing chardy in the first round..shame he didn't get an easier one but maybe he could pull off a shock victory.

Dolgopolov is such a waste. He must be one of the most disappointing players in recent memory.

Because he lost to a Spaniard on clay in Chile? Surely your exasperation with his is a little late…he's been disappointing for a good year, at least. :snigger

I agree. He has such a good serve and unorthodox game that can be either brilliant at times or flat out poor. That mammoth first set tiebreak he played against Djokovic at the 2011 US Open where Novak won it 7-6 (14) was an example of him playing great. Had he won that set Novak was definitely in trouble. But he's done pretty much zero since.

Dolgo doesn't have a "goto game". His whole game is based on unpredictability. He mixes it up 24/7 but has no pattern of play to fall back on in "default" mode.

Yup. It's like he's playing high on acid all the time. Doesn't seem to know what the hell is happening and neither do the spectators! Makes it interesting at least!

I agree about Dolgopolov. I remember fans predicting him top be a future top 10 player.
He climbed nicely up to 13 if I recall, now he is out of the top 50 and all this at 25 years, when he should still improve.
He might have a second wind in his career later, because many have that these days.

Another player who has seen better days in his career is T. Bellucci. He has been as high as 21 and reached a SF in a master on clay.
Now he has to battle it out through qualifications even for small events as he is ranked 125.
I know he has been having some injury problems.
I saw him winning his 3 rounds of qualifications here in Chile, to fall in R1 to a player ranked 226 from Japan, Daniel.
Don't be surprised to see a player with such a name playing for Japan, I can see he is born in USA.

Agreed. He is a modern day Santoro. Did not work in the past, will not work today. If he could mix it up occasionally and has a solid go to game in addition to that, he might have been a player.

Christian garin is in action today ..vs Jeremy chardy I think he plays.

its got a link on livescorehunter, might be worth giving a glance seeing as we're scrabbling around wondering when some young guns might one day pump some fresh air in a stale and fetid top 5.. (fetid in a good way..and 'stanimal' being the very recent exception to that)

garin's the one who attracted murmours of approval from rafa n 'uncle toni'..so you never know if Christian garin and borna coric (who has silky fluid moves) make it it could one day be fedal mk2 GARORIC ?..CORARIN..not as snappy as FEDAL is it.:s

not before 7pm local time. :)

^ :lolz: Thanks for the heads-up. I want to see him play.

@herios: Funny you mention Bellucci. A friend and I were chatting about him the other day. He looked like he was coming on to be a fixture in the mid-20s, 30s, then it's been steady slide ever since. Not sure what happened.

Robredo was so close today…had the first set, lost in the TB in the 2nd 8-10, then fell behind a break in the 3rd and Leonardo Mayer snagged it. :(

The youngster lost his initial serve, but just got it back: 4-4. He's got a nice serve, and plays with aggression. Chardy has had trouble buying a first serve. The crowd seems sparse, but they're vocally behind their local boy.

garin..apart from anything else needs to move up when receiving serve..standing where rafa does but hitting moonballs back at half his pace isn't the way ahead.

back to the futures/challengers to improve a bit..or a lot.

Christian garin went 0-2 down but rallied to 5-5, chardy is 40s rank..garin alternates between a 1 and 2 handed forehand and not always on the cc forehand shot..his serve return is not so great like I said, the fixed camera (livescorehunter) one end of court didn't show garin receiving at the near end..he was standing so deep he vanished off the bottom of the screen. garin also lost to chardy last year but in rd 2..rank will dip into the 400s.

he is still 17 (burfdayy late may)...that 19-20 yr old aussie mr Cyclops Zylophone who is top100 maybe closer to some breakthrough, someone under the age of 84yrs old needs to be new in top 20..we're still on raonic and dimitrov potentially to win big, they are 22-23.maybe that's how it it from here onwards though...no more becker/McEnroe/wilander/Edberg/nadal teen winners ever again, 22/23 is the new 19.
