This might be the nail in the coffin for doubles for Team Williams.

Venus has been the weaker link today. Serena is playing her 2nd match and has more energy.

It is interesting when Serena is off and Venus is on they do fine in doubles, but when Serena is on and Venus is off they struggle so it seems.

We are a bout to see how bad they want it to try and break and stay in this match.

Venus is the better volleyer. If she's not up there being an active wall, opponents can drive right through them.

I don't think they want it that bad or they would have broken earlier in the set.

Rest up Serena, the Williams are out of doubles. Time to get some singles hardware instead.

Congrats to the Czechs. They really did play the match of their lives. Unfortunately, that just gets them to the final. They still have one more match to play tomorrow.

Slight doubles tank perhaps, so Serena can be well rested for singles Sunday?

Possibly. I think they wanted to win. They just didn't want to put in the maximum effort. Unfortunately for them, their opponents did. That's on the USO. If they really wanted an American team in the doubs final they should have set them up for success. Having Serena play an hour after her singles match after making other poor scheduling decisions earlier in the week was not helping their cause.

Yeah I am incredibly shocked at the scheduling. They would have had better ratings in the future if they had just given them at least a shot by putting Serena on first before Vika.

I think had they won the first set, we would have seen a huge effort. I don't think Serena was going to give this her all after losing the first set only to exhaust herself and have to come back and play tomorrow.

Serena was giving all she had left, because she wanted to win the doubles if for Venus' sake only.

I missed it! I'll have to watch the repeat in a little while! That's shocking after all the talk abut them being so good, winning all those majors and Olympic medals, and upsetting the top seeds! I blame it on them starting to get serious too late in their careers! As good as they're supposed to be, they should have won more titles between them; esp. Serena! After 30, now she wants to commit! Too weird!

Watching it now and the Williams' are horrible; double faults, inept net play, & an inability to take advantage of multiple break points! It was ugly! Their volleying has always been suspect since their technique is so bad, but it was more obvious than any other match I've seen them play! They must have used up all they had taking out Vinci & Errani!

Again, Serena gave it her all but playing a doubles quarterfinal Thursday, semis singles and then coming back like a couple hours later to play doubles semi, and Venus wasn't firing on all cylinders this match I don't think it was meant to be this tournament. When Venus and Serena are tired, they get super sloppy. Serena looked exhausted after her singles match.

They did play 3 days in a row because of the USO scheduling (W, T, F). That's on top of Serena's singles play. The rest of the draw was ahead while the sisters were behind. All those matches caught up w/ them, period.

Right, it was Venus' job to take up the slack and she too was to erratic. All credit to the Czechs, they played wonderful, but, their best is still not anywhere near the sisters best.

The Czechs are just starting their doubs final on Ashe. It's almost 8PM EST. Losing last night was the best thing for Serena this year.
