Roger wasn't aggressive in the first set. Did he play a lot from the back? He picked his game up in the 2nd set and I was already thinking about him winning at times. Then again it fell down and he lost it. His nerves did not do well today. A bad day, what else? He couldn't play his game at its best. Del Potro had all the answers. Roger wasn't particularly bad. He had the better differential. But Del Potro' serve was simply better today. So that may be the prime reason for this win.
Any loss is hard to take. I felt it totally. But let's say Roger had a stellar season coming back in 2017 to add 2 slams to his resume. I think it's huge at this age. And what he has done is pretty great at this stage of his career. This is probably more than what he would have expected from his comeback. So, I am not too much gutted. It's not necessary to make it 20, is it? 19 is a pretty amazing number already. And I think most of Roger fans don't mind Roger losing to Del Potro as compared to a Novak or Rafa. I think this tournament is far from being Rafa's granted silverware. I have my hopes up for Delpo. Right now he is again playing cool and will throw the kitchen sink at everyone I would hope. This is a good result for him. Althought we would not have wanted this at the cost of Roger, we can be happy for Delpo's return. Should not he have won a few grand slams at least on hards if not for his ever-ailing wrist. His return would be great for tennis. He still has a lot of years left and can make the most out of it. And this adds spice to the mix.
Yes, now Rafa's the favourite for YE no. 1. But it's not over yet. If Rafa does not reach the finals then Roger would go for it again in the remaining masters and WTF. But, the fatigue and back are the two things I am worried about right now.
