I like Gulbis too, but I must say... I can't comprehend how he's able to beat top guys with that forehand. It's a shocker

It's a bizarre looking shot alright but much like Del Potro's you've no idea where he's gonna hit it so it works as a good disguise as weird as it is!

When did Gulbis start limping? Commentator saying Gulbis still in whole lot of trouble here lol. He's hardly going to win now is he. He's isn't even running.

Well, while he's not winning this, at least Gulbis made the score more respectable.

Congrats to Thiem! :clap

First ever five-set match, and he comes back from two sets to love down. Impressive.

True but a lot of guys Thiem's age would have still found a way to lose in straight sets.

Yup. For example, Stan didn't know what to make of Rafa at the AO which is why I still maintain he played only a good set and 2 games there. He's older and you'd think wiser but he played awful when Rafa tweaked his back. He was atrocious most of the rest of the match.

It is now 7:30 and day session has not ended in Ashe. :puzzled

.... and this is despite the fact that Ferrer took 0 minutes to win his match slated for Ashe.

Joke alright. Never seen Groth in action and all I know about him is he holds the record for fastest serve at 163.7mph. Hopefully it'll start soon. Should be a good test of reactions for return of serve for Roger.

groth is 26/27yrs old and he has won one match in his career at major level,

lets not get overexcited by his ladyboy serve..that serve was on dodgy equipment I heard.

Not, joke. I am serious. If Ferrer had to play out his match and that had taken 3 hours,
then Fed's night match would have started at 10:30 p.m.

Nah, not dodgy equipment just not recognised by the ATP 'cos of their daft rules. From wiki:

"He is best known for hitting the fastest serve on record at 163.4 mph (263 km/h) in 2012 at the ATP Challenger in Busan. Association of Tennis Professionals does not formally recognise this serve speed record: Ivo Karlovic still holds the official record for the fastest serve of 251 km/h (156 mph)."

Although I'm disgusted Ferrer won by withdrawal of Tomic I'll take the earlier start anyway. Doubt I'd bother staying till 3:30am here just for it to begin. That said I stayed up late watching Cirstea and Bouchard which was over pretty damn late here too.

American update. Today Tim Smyczek played and lost to RBA in 3, 2 and 1.
That was the only men's match involving americans today.

So,

At the beginning there were 12
After round 1, there were 3
After round 2, there are 2.

John Isner and Sam Querry are the two left.
