Soooo...are we allowed to theorize about Rafa's match with Fognini or would that be off topic considering this thread is dedicated to day 3 of the US Open?

So are you thinking that Rafa is going to lose against Fog? I don't think so

No I don't think he'll lose, but I think he's going to struggle.

But we're not allowed to talk about this because this thread is about day 3 of the US Open and we shouldn't turn every thread into a Nadal discussion, even though Nadal just played in day 3 of the US Open, so it makes sense to talk about him in the thread dedicated to day 3 of the US Open.

Well, Rafa has played at the day 3 so I suppose that we are allowed to talk about his game
Coric played about 10 times better than Schwartz and Rafa shut him down.
Inconsistency is the issue here and has been all the season after to have been one of the most consistent players of the Tour before. The ebbs and flows not only from one match to another but within a match are sometimes too much to handle and only shows sparks of the old Rafa now.
It's hard being a Rafa's fan these days because we don't know what he is going to do, it doesn't matter who is the opponent, the #1 or # 60, all depends of his mind, he looks to be 100% physically fit but not mentally which is a very serious problem
Tomorrow? we'll see but hope too see more and more of the "old Rafa"

Paul Anacome said early this past Spring, Rafa biggest problem is that he hasn't been able to consistently put together a string of good performances. Here is Rafa's take on his play yesterday:

I think Rafa is in some serious denial about his decline,IMO.

Coric didn't play well either. As mentioned it is mostly consistency issues with Rafa and playing guys with any kind of decent TBH means he may have to work hard because he isn't consistently going after the forehand. If Fog actually shows up and decides he wants to play it's going to be tough for Nadal as he has more game than Schwartzman (obviously) and Coric (though not for long).

There may be a different Rafa that shows up on Friday, he is not to fond of the Fog, he will play a lot more aggressively.

Sometimes he is playing like a #200 ranked player so I can't blame the press asking him those kind of questions . Maybe it could help him to WAKE UP and think better who he is and what he can do instead to help so much his opponents :(

Then let's go to say if on Friday Rafa shows up and decides to play well, Fog wouldn't have any chance IMO

Rafa's like a petulant child; hates anyone who challenges him! Those 2 clay court losses earlier this season only fuels his animus; believe it! This is little more than that no matter how obnoxious FFF can be at times! Who am I kidding? Most if not all the time! :cover :nono

I don't know if I would say that about the man comparing him to a child or being overly sensitive, I think he is just tired of people being so critical of his play of recent, all he has to do is playing consistent and win a lot of matches consecutively.
