RE: US Open - Day 1, Monday August 31 - Order of Play

We're trying something new for the US Open. At the top of the ATP & WTA forums, in the "Forum Announcements" section, each day's order-of-play will be posted. This way, you will always know where to find the latest information, since it will always be at the top, whereas regular threads get moved up and down, depending on use.

Since it's an announcement, it can't be used like a regular thread, so we're still going to have a thread for each day in the "Important Threads" section, which can be used for discussion.

Notice that 3/5 matches on Ashe are women, including both Williams sisters. :clap

Fortunately, New York is doing the right thing by featuring Serena as the first night match, after the Opening Ceremony.

Katrina Adams probably put her foot down and told ITF that this is an event hosted by Americans and there is no way she was going to allow the disrespect that Serena had endured at Roland Garros and Wimbledon...not on her watch:nono
go Katrina Adams!thanks for banishing pova to Armstrong...:snicker

Post a link to that bit of "info" please. If not, I think it's better not to say someone is doing something without proof they did it. It would be interesting if that actually happened and Serena deserves the main stage, but without a link, it's just hot air.

Actually Serena/Venus usually plays at least one of the night matches on AA first off, so nothing new here. The only thing missing is since there's no really preeminent American male player (a la Roddick), there is not the usual US male match in the evening.

Well 3 of those Ashe matches could be interesting: Ana vs. DC, Venus vs. Puig and Rafa vs. Coric

All of us "Chicagoans " who have known Katrina Adams since she was a elite player here and her early days on the WTA tour are not surprised that she has taken such a stance on this issue for Serena. TentedI I am may be able to reach out to her afterwards of the open to write some blogs for TF if it's okay with you . Thanks Tented

Daria Kastkina of Russia is the LL and she will play Daria Gavrilova, in all Daria Match.

That match is now thrown out of LA stadium and La Monf will instead grace the stadium court as a replacement.

RE: US Open - Day 1 - Discussion

We will rue the day that ESPN got sole coverage of the Open. They have at least 4 channels and none of them are showing tennis matches (on the first day of this country's national slam). Their coverage starts at noon. Instead, we're forced to watch coverage of Brady's woes, RG3, other NFL crap, First Take (can't stand Skip Bayless), Mike & Mike and a bunch of sports reporters running their mouths about stuff they're hardly an expert in. :cover

Ana is very likely going to regret the big court assignment. Lately, she seems to wilt at Slams. Meanwhile her munchkin opponent always seems to bump it up a notch when she plays big moments.

You said it! I was just sitting here flipping through the ESPN channels, thinking, "OK, so it's not on ESPN2, so maybe ESPN News ... OK, so maybe ESPN ... OK, maybe the Tennis Channel is showing it now ... nope ... in fact, NO ONE is showing tennis. :cover

Could just use the type writer your on right now to watch it! I am glad Espn took over, their stream site is really good. I got to watch some Mardy Fish during my lunch break!
