Do they have retroactive TUE's? If that is he case, then it is legalized doping. As far as I know, one has to ask for permission before they get the treatment.

Retroactive or whatever doesn't really matter IMO. There is no reason whatsoever someone should be allowed to take banned substances and then just return to competition. Maybe, and I mean maybe allow them to be off the juice for 6-12 months before they can even play a tournament. And that'd be pretty liberal with fair sport IMO.

Rafa played Khachanov in R3 and that was the first time Karen was playing in R3 at USO.

Rafa played Basilashvili in R4 and that was the first time Nico was playing in R4 at USO.

Rafa shall play Thiem in QF and that will be the first time for Domi in a QF at USO.

Just saying.

The fact Thiem made a QF off clay is telling. He may not like being called a clay court specialist but that's what he's been. And then you have a total grinder/clay courter like Sousa make the 4th round to boot.

I agree with that. Cortisone is a steroid and it can increase metabolism and heart rate. The mere fact that it requires a TUE to use it means that there are serious issues. It should be banned from sports altogether.

Some players have even been given a TUE after being tested positive and then giving an explanation for it.

He believes whatever he wants to. Don't try to bother him with facts.

And so do you. You can't even cop the fact that tons of players have an incentive to dope and even before they join the tour. Guess you've never stepped inside a gym full of teenagers the size of a bus. Drugs are rife everywhere these day. It's no secret.

Yeah, they do. They can use it and then file retroactively to have it "allowed" and remove positive tests as GSM stated,

D minor vs C major match was perhaps the most interesting match of this USO so far. I watch till the end of fourth set and then crashed on the couch itself. It looks like there was a lot of drama in the fifth set also with D-minor climbing back from 2-5 hole and C maor needing 8 MPs to close it out.

Seriously?? Which ones have done that. It's bad enough that they can ask for one and get it but getting one after being busted? Obviously that makes them known cheaters. Tennis is a bigger joke than I thought.

That's enough. We're not turning this thread into a referendum on drugs, especially when it's all speculation. Get back to discussing the USO.

That would qualify as corruption. Which players were given TUE's after testing positive?

So in other words you're not really telling us anything vital. Just saying.

It is not vital in the sense of "you can only play who is across the net". But, it is vital in the sense that a player is not likely to succeed in a round which they have never reached before, especially when playing against a big shot.

It's done. Iznah moves on to QF. I sat in the new Armstrong. I really liked the size of it. Not too big like Ashe.

Please describe more. I loved the old Armstrong. I don't have a chance to go the the Open this year. And yes, Ashe is too big, by a lot.

@Moxie I never visited the old LA so I can't report on that, but I like the feel of the new LA. It feels homey to me. You actually feel closer to the players even when you sit in the general admission seats. And I was wrong about the shot clock, Ashe, LA and Grandstand all have a separate clock from the serve meter that's posted in the very right or left corner behind each baseline. Cinci and Canada is where they were using the same screen to do 25 second shot clock and serve speeds. Here are some pictures I took of LA

Thanks for that, K! It's clearly much bigger than the old LA, but still "embracing," in terms of being close to the action, it seems. They've added more seating high up, but they've kept the court intimate. That's nice. It was always my favorite court. Also thanks for the note about the shot clock. I was looking for it and hadn't been able to find it. Cheers!

I think you're right about adding seats near the top. They also put a roof on this one which is really nice when it rains. I guess they are trying to compete w/ Aus
