Just Googled the ones I didn't get expecting to think "Oh, I should have got that..." for a few of them.... but no, I had no idea.

Ok, my sister is telling me that the capital of Kazahstan is Astana? Hopefully Teddy checks all this.

I have no idea about the spiders or apes.

Isn't Burj Khalifa in Dubai still the tallest building? Or did they build something taller somewhere else, perhaps in Asia?

Wow Teddy, I can't keep up with all of your trivia questions. I should know the capitals of Canada and Serbia.;)

I also know that Amsterdam is called the Venice of the north.

HONESTLY -- BILLIE -- me asking the questions -- i FORGOT amsterdam!!! idiot me. lol.
i was thnking of st petersburg for obvious reasons - and because i went there pas tsummer with all the rivers..lol. like in front of my hotel -- ferry boats and partying on them all night even past midnight under the non-setting sun of 'WHITE NIGHTS' -

and because it is also called that - sometimes -

thinking that i should have said what is the PALMYRA of the north?>
and attaches to current events more -- SYRIA'S palmyra that was destroyed by those headchoppers - including the old man scholar and curator historian because he wouldn't reveal where they sent many artifacts for safekeeping - and although NOT commercially important -- it HAD to be saved by russia/syria /iran becuse PALMYRA is historically the most symbolic of all cities --

it is the actually meeting place of the ancient silk roads...the meeting of all the influences from the far east - russia itself, europe, greece, egypt, africa...and its symbols all containt those influences in trade...

and the russians have always called st peterburg ''PALMYRA OF THE NORTH" in honor of the original palmyra. and many russians love going to that city in syria. that's why when it was regained and cleared of mines -- they sent one of their orchestras there to perfrom on the 'greek amphitheatre' to commemorate that historical importance being saved. to commemorate troumph of civilization over barbarism and savagery.

anyway ...fun things. about capitals.

COME UP with places -- and famous people, events, anything you think is easily associated with the place.

=================================
SWITZERLAND : ROGER FEDERER == BASEL, GENEVA, WATCHES, CANTONS..YODELING, COWBELLS...CHOCOLATE..hehe.

NEW YORK -- big apple, broadway, radio city music hall, tin pan alley, empire state building, new york times..nyc subway..

PARIS == City of Lights..french actresses, brigitte bardot, chanel , fashion, wine, notre dame cathedral, champ elysee, river rhone...french revolution, president hollande, lol.

Australia -- aborigines, sydney opera house, salt water crocodiles, crocodile dundee, famous actors and actresses, Great Coral Reef, tasmanian devil, Great Red Rock, sheep and cattle, kangaroos , platypus, black back spider fighting and eating black venomous snake in the backyard. BRITBOX. TENNIS legends , rugby..australian jack.'THE THORNBIRDS". nice films.
The Friendly SLAM.

NEW ZEALAND -- kiwi , KIRI TE KANAWA, LORD OF THE RINGS AND PETER JACKSON, lamb and wool, giant canoes, all four seasons at the same time of year ...winter on one mountain side summer on the other side.

HAVE a go at it...and let's add to whatever we want that we associate with a place...it's fun and we can learn a lot

We have Kiwi fruit and Kiwi bird and also New Zealanders are called Kiwis.

Beside Kiri Te Kanawa and Peter Jackson, we have other famous people such as Lord Rutherford and Edmund Hilary. We also had 5 time slam winner and tennis #1 Tony Wilding. The most important thing to remember is that Russel Crow is not Australian and Crowded House is not Australian band and Phar Lap wasn't Australian horse. Without knowledge of that don't even think of visiting New Zealand.

We used to have huge number of sheep, but now we have more cows than sheep and I hear farmers have been giving up on farming progressively.

Long canoes were used long ago when Maori came to New Zealand, they don't use them normally anymore.

We never have all 4 seasons in the same day. I've heard that of Melbourne, but people living there say it is not true. In fact, we don't even have 4 seasons in most of New Zealand. It is best to describe like spring in US is taking turns with autumn there, pardon you'd call it fall.

I love kiwi fruit. I always thought that New Zealand had more sheep than any other animals; that is an interesting trivia bit.

Isn't sailing a popular sport in New Zealand?

Yes, on some days the sea is full of yachts, so they call Auckland City of Sails.

In recent years, there are more cows than sheep in New Zealand.
