FAA was at the crossroads last year. I was rooting for him to take the next step for years, but I finally saw the light at some point earlier this year. I realized that he just doesn't have what it takes to become elite and that he has likely reached his ceiling.

If you ask me who is at the crossroads now, it's Jannik Sinner. 12 months from now, we'll either be talking about Sinner as a slam winner and the chief rival to Alcaraz or as the next Tsitsipas/FAA.

Oh please you were carrying on that he hadnt won a MS 1000 which he did, Jannik will progress in his own time, he has just turned 22 years of age, after he won his first Master 1000, quite frankly I was surprised but delighted, he has things in his game which need to be address, if you had watched the final, his serve, is his main concern, you cannot win a tournament let alone a GS title without it., it still needs tweaking, thank goodness he has a great coach in Cahill

Actually, both Becker and Edberg were in the top 4 at the same time as 20 year olds, and even top 3 at one point - in late 1986.

You're right, November 3, 1986 they were ranked #2 and #3.

He began the year out of the top 400 if I am not mistaken. Already won 4 or 5 challengers, including yesterday, spanking the eternal prima donna Fognini in the final.

He has loads of talent, but he needs to put his head on the right place (and you know I don’t take those two concepts lightly). He's got better in this department, but he still has a long way to go there.

For me, it's Ben Shelton. I want to see how he follows up that success at the US Open. I can see him being in the discussion with Alcaraz and Sinner in 2024, top 5 in the rankings and being a contender at the slams.

Well the YEC is just around the corner! Alcaraz is still #2, but is technically still in the YE #1 race due to 10 pts. earned in 2nd Rd. of Paris Masters! From what I understand, even w/ the meager lead of Djokovic, he probably only has to win 1 RR match to lock up YE #1! We'll see next week! Nole has it tough in Green Group of Sinner, Tsitsipas, & Rune! Alcaraz has to deal w/ Zverev, Rublev, & Medvedev in the Red Group! I wonder how the "hatahs" will assess the draw now as they think Djokovic has had it so easy the past season?? IDIOTS!

- Fritz has dropped to No. 10.
- Tsitsipas is down to No. 6, having been as high as No. 3.
- Sinner, Rublev, and Hurkacz all end the year on career highs.
- Zverev has climbed up to No. 7 after coming back from that awful injury.
- Tiafoe down to No. 16.

Some of these have been proper course corrections. Ruud ever being #2 was an anomaly. Tiafoe being in the top ten, less as much, but his game is not something that would be top ten normally. Fritz? He has always been a difficult read for me - sometimes outstanding with a lot of grit and other times only a glimmer.
