2) the way he got to the final last year and how he will want to avoid that trouble again,

Cali, can you explain what you mean by this? I am assuming that you may be referring to the match vs Tsonga. I actually thought that Tsonga out played Djoker until the 5 set. Tsonga never believe that he or any french player could win the French open title which he mentioned the weeks prior. This was very evident during the match when he squander silly points including mp in the 4th .

I fully agree that Tsonga outplayed Djokovic for the most part and should have won the match.

But what I mean when I refer to "the way he got to the final last year and how he will want to avoid that trouble again" is that Djokovic will be extra keen on making short work of his opponents pre-Nadal with the memory of last year's struggles against Seppi and Tsonga lingering.

I am simply referring here to a mindset of urgency and emphasis on getting to the final in a fresh and spry condition. Think of how Nadal approached Wimbledon 2008 up to the final after enduring all of the long matches in his run to the 2007 final. I believe Djokovic will handle Roland Garros 2013 in similar fashion.

I'd be surprised if Djokovic plays one 5-setter this year en route to facing Nadal.

Well at least this thread worked out slightly better than the one predicting Nalbandian's return to the top 10 last year.

Well Djokovic blew a huge opportunity against an inferior opponent today. He'll look back on this match with regret. He is the more talented player and should have won.

The only thing that saved Nadal was what BS said he had lost - movement. It was defensive scrambling that won this match for Nadal.

And this nonsense negates the now irrelevance of this thread how?

You were the one that brought this post back, not me, genius. LOL

I didn't go right to your "Djokovic in 4" prediction and say "look at how irrelevant your prediction" was. Plus, I didn't go out and say Djokovic definitely would win the Calendar Slam. Read the title.

Oh but please do rub in how wrong I was about Djokovic winning. Trust me, I would absolutely love it. Never been so glad to be wrong.

I do wonder however, whether you'd feel the same about your prediction (that you made since last year, and made sure to reiterate) that Djokovic would win the French Open this year, and would have the overall best clay court season out of any player, and that he and Roger were going to meet in the final of Rome.

Please explain to me how Djokovic did not back me up with his performance at the French. I have been saying since last year that he would be excellent at the 2013 French Open, which he was. He did not drop a set up to the semis, where he lost 9-7 in the fifth to Nadal.

As for the "best overall clay court season", I don't remember making that prediction. I don't even remember caring about best overall clay court season.

And, I would let you off the hook for your "Djokovic in 4" prediction if it weren't for one problem: you make your predictions in an analytical frame of mind which you are very proud to separate from emotional attachments (i.e. bias for or against a specific player). For that reason, saying you were wrong is more significant than you are letting on.

I was wrong. There's no denying that. I underestimated Nadal, something you know a thing or two about.

Actually, Novak dropped the first set to Kohlscreiber.

You've got rather a lot of nerve to sneer at Broken for being dispassionately analytical, leaving off his specific fandom of Nadal, since you, yourself, have a Black Hole-sized blind spot where Rafa is concerned, all the while claiming to "see" what others refuse to.

Actually, no, I don't underestimate Nadal. I actually characterize the reasons for his success better than anyone.

You never see me making outright predictions that he will definitely lose a certain match (like you did before the French Open semifinal against Djokovic) or not win a certain tournament. I simply talk about what should happen if his opponents do what they need to do and play to their potential.

If ONLY these guys would hold up their end and quit losing to Nadal, then your theory would prove out. Nuts...what a bunch of panty-waists, eh?
