Spitting on the AO as a minor tournament is sour grapes in the extreme. You surely wouldn't be saying that if Maria was still in with a chance, even with Serena out. Like Wimbledon last summer, the women's game is set to produce a (potential) surprise winner. It doesn't devalue the tournament, just because the top seeds go out.

If you downgraded the tournament, why should you care about the draw? Your post is full of bile and resentment. You sure have a lot of axes to grind. Neither posters here, nor the tournament organizers in Australia have anything to do with why Maria lost. Continue to champion Maria, as she is your favorite, but there is no reason to take out your anger at her poor performance on posts or posters here.

There's a glaring error in this post. Maria was never a rival to Serena, except to delusional media people. One of the most lopsided head to heads in sports history. But yeah, other than that I concur the French Open will be good and very open this year

20% prize money and 80% sponsors. Serena's break up is probably 80% prize money and
20% sponsors.

I know I will get a lot of flak for this. But how come Maria has so much money
coming to her via sponsors and advertisements etc. Don't you think it is highly
disproportionate to her on court achievements? She is not a Kournikova either.
I guess the only answer is life is not fair.

She's not Kournikova, but she's the closest thing and she actually wins titles (something Anna could never do). So they'll ride that cash cow as long as they can.

Nothing special about Kournikova. And the comparison is not completely spurious. Pretty blonde who's fame and exposure (and $$$) is out-sized commiserate with her results. Sharapova is the highest earning athlete of all women, but she has 4 Majors to Serena's 17. You do the "fairness" and the "blondness" math.

Anyway, I must say that this forum is a breath of fresh air on the Internet sports forums. Users understand that its like a safe clean "heaven". Thats why I am here. May it continue to keep its character and not go down like other forums did.
Its great that the "yellow tabloids" mentality is not endorsed here.
There are bigger forums, maybe "more exciting" but they are no fun at all. Just a one big sour taste for the normal tennis fan. This forum is different. Admins and Users, Please keep it this way.
