metaphysics is almost always an attempt to prove the incredible by an appeal to the unintelligible.

"The deader you are ,the better you were"

Murat

(this is a saying of mine that I use when someone of some fame dies and suddenly people start gushing over the person that they never cared for when he was alive and the gushing grows and grows as time passes ...)

There are just so many Oscar Wilde quotes that I love.

"A little sincerity is a dangerous thing, and a great deal of it is absolutely fatal."

"Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much."

"I am not young enough to know everything."

"Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious."

"The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about."

"Whenever people agree with me I always feel I must be wrong."

"I can resist anything but temptation."

"Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about."

"Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes."

"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars."

who is jesse lady emma?

How come you don't know jesse james? He's a poster at T4U. He's a Brit. Granted he doesn't post as much tennis related stuff but he's still a fan (Federer and Murray by default lol. Oh those Brits :p). He's quite intelligent too. You will find him mostly on the General Discussion thread and he has a thread called Do you Believe in God? there too. He wanted to discuss a lot of the quotes - especially the ones I'd posted from Einstein. Here's a few by Albert Einstein that he really wanted to have a discussion on. Quite profound all of these.

- My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.

- He who joyfully marches to music rank and file, has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action. It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder.

- A human being is a part of a whole, called by us _universe_, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest... a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

Socrates

So true. Socrates my man. He's the first Greek philosopher I came to know about at age 11! His 'Know Thyself' is the most profound quote I've ever came across. And I love his 'I to die, You to live - which is better only God knows'. I came to know about these two quotes when I read that book about him at age 11 and it stayed with me forever.

Socrates was superb in the 1982 World Cup. One of my favourite players of all time.

No match to the original one, baron britbox. A superior thinker vs a superior athlete. A teacher vs a student. In fact, Socrates was so ahead of his time that the authority thought he was corrupting the youth with his bizarre teaching and so he was put to death. Such a shame.

destiny is not a matter of chance, it is a matter of choice; it is not a thing to be waited for, it is a thing to be achieved.

"And let that be a lesson to you all. Nobody beats Vitas Gerulaitis 17 times in a row."– after beating Jimmy Connors at the January 1980 Masters. Gerulaitis had lost their previous 16 matches.

Is that by any chance the longest losing streak against the same player?

Out of context of the love poem that it comes from, but thinking of a couple of friends I lost last year: "Love is so short, and forgetting is so long." - Pablo Neruda
