I did watch Osaka-Vekic, and it was an impressive force of will that won Naomi that match. She was down 1-5, I think, in the 3rd. Vekic served for it several times, and Osaka just raised her game. Then she played a really impressive TB to win. Vekic understandably downtrodden, but that is a back to the drawing board match for her. Edit: Sorry, @Hoergren, I see that you posted earlier that it was 1-5 down.

I did get a chance to see the match. Why did Vika retire?

Stan's squeeze has spent her entire career at the drawing board. She's an epic headcase. I knew she would give the lead back yesterday. She's faltered w/ a large lead before against lesser players, how much more it would happen against the tour's best player. Good on Naomi not to throw in the towel. Maybe she's learning to play w/ this target on her back.

Vika was 2 pts from winning the match in the 2nd set. As usual her serve let her down and was snacked on by Konta2. This is not a good sign for her. She must have done something after failing to serve out the match. A few weeks ago she had to retire in the Monterrey final against Mugu w/ a leg injury. Like Serena, she's having a hard time staying healthy.

I DVR’ed Osaka/Vekic, so I just got to watch it. What a comeback by Naomi in the third set!

For those who missed it, try to catch it on Tennis Channel if they play it again tonight.
IF? They ran it about 3 times last night. :lol6:

Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from @PorscheTennis due to an abdominal injury. Anett Kontaveit gets a walkover into the final.

Vekic is a choker. No way she should lose from
5-1 unless injured. Sorry to hear about Vika and Osaka. Rooting for Petra to win the title.

Congrats to Petra — the only woman to win two titles thus far this year.
Another funny thing - the first week (I think) where two Petras won a title - the other one is Petra Martic who won Istanbul. 20 different WTA winners this year until now out of 21 tournaments is another remarkable stat. That's why WTA is getting better and better - me thinks.:drums:
