Goffin really just mailed in an appearance it seems. Surprised he would go down so easily.

Why would Goffin mail in that match? He is the first time ranked #1 in an event and I was really curious how he can handle the pressure. I do not buy into the fact he did not try fairly. He needs to establish himself as a top 16 player he has not achieved much yet to start tanking.

Maybe so. I saw some of it but he seemed to be out of it or just lethargic. I thought maybe it was Davis Cup fatigue but he only played one played one match. Could it be pressure as No. 1? Maybe. :huh:

Yes, perhaps. Just one of those things, Paire caught fire, and now he dismantled Istomin also in 2 quick sets. Paire is highly inconsistent, he may have just caught Goffin off guard.

Nonetheless, good event for Zverev, to pull back into the top 100, after his plunge last week.

Semifinal Results:

Benoit Paire (FRA) d. (3)Pablo Cuevas (URU) 6-4 6-3
(2)Tommy Robredo (ESP) d. Alexander Zverev (GER) 6-3 6-4

Paire is having quite a week. Knocks defending champ Cuevas out and will face Robredo for his first ATP title. Robredo will be going for his 13th and first since Umag 2 years ago.

Very impressive by Paire, this will be his first ever final. Usually I root for Tommy, but I wouldn't mind Benoit coming out on top.
