Jeremy Chardy is upset by Paul Henri Mathieu who was a qualifier here, ranked way outside of the top 100.

Thursday's Results

Round 2
B Paire (FRA) bt D Goffin (BEL) (1) 6-2, 6-3
T Robredo (ESP) (2) bt A Ramos-Vinolas (ESP) 6-4, 6-4
P Cuevas (URU) (3) bt F Del Bonis (ARG) 6-4, 6-76, 6-0
S Darcis (BEL) bt J Janowicz (POL) (8) 6-1, 6-4
D Istomin (UZB) bt N Almagro (SPA) 6-3, 6-3
P Mathieu (FRA) bt E Gulbis (LAT) 6-3, 6-3

Draw

Goffin really just mailed in an appearance it seems. Surprised he would go down so easily.

Cuevas is playing well, trying to defend the title he won here last year. One of the young guys, Zverrev is still in it too so it will be interesting to see how far he can go. Faces Bellucci next.

Why would Goffin mail in that match? He is the first time ranked #1 in an event and I was really curious how he can handle the pressure. I do not buy into the fact he did not try fairly. He needs to establish himself as a top 16 player he has not achieved much yet to start tanking.

Maybe so. I saw some of it but he seemed to be out of it or just lethargic. I thought maybe it was Davis Cup fatigue but he only played one played one match. Could it be pressure as No. 1? Maybe.
