Well I have already made made my observations regarding these match ups on the 'Who will win Singapore post' I will post them again here.

Serena v Ana,these two of late have had some tough moments in their matches, this will be a good test for Serena, still I feel Serena will be to strong for Ana.

I feel Halep has been the forgotten player at Singapore,I guess that had to do with her hip problem, from what I have read,it is good.Halep has no pressure on her,she is flying under the radar. She can swing freely in this tournament.Halep to defeat Bochard.

Sharapova v Woznicacki

We all saw the way Caroline defeat Maria at the USO,I believe that Caroline knows what she has to do to defeat Maria, also she wont back down from the challenge. If Caroline brings the same game she had against Maria at the USO,I believe she can defeat Maria.

Kvitova v Radwansaka

I believe Aga is in a slump at present,I also feel it is the way she plays the game, she is a slight women, always has to battle against the top hitters in our game.Another fact is she always seems to have some sort of tape on her body.Petra has a outstanding indoor record, this will be Petra's fourth consecutive appearance at the YEC,I have picked Petra as my Dark Horse at Singapore, watch out,I believe Petra will be too strong for Aga in this match up.

Two interesting match ups for day 1.

Serena vs. Ana
I'm sure Serena wants to start off with a big win against a player who beat her pretty unexpectedly this year. It will send a message to everyone very quickly. I can't see this being Ana's match. Then again we really haven't seen Serena play since her knee problems. We'll know a lot about how this tournament will unfold after we see how Serena plays this match.

Bouchard vs. Halep
Matchup of the two breakthroughs. I think this match is important for both of them. Bouchard was playing with house money for most of the year. She was playing really free exciting tennis on big stages. I think Wimbledon kind of brought it all back to reality. After that she seemed to feel the pressure of being the new young thing from a country where she is the only hope. She needs to do well here to reassert herself. As of post Wimbledon the narrative has been that she no longer has the confidence to beat the top tier. I think there's less pressure on Halep just because we know she's having some difficulty with injury. I think making the SF would be great for her here and then she should go home really get herself healthy and fit for Australia.

A great stat for Serena going into the WTA finals at Singapore,

Serena is on the second-longest winning streak in WTA finals history.

Serena has won her last 15 matches at the WTA Finals, going 5-0 at each of her title runs in 2009,2012 and 2013.Only Martina Navratilova has won more in a row here - 21 between '83 and '86

Serena in straights.
Simona in 3 sets.

It's interesting to see how the ladies hold up, Fall swing brought lots of injuries.

Please use this thread to discuss Day 1 action.

I am anxious to see how Caro handles Pova. I suspect she will be inspired given their last meeting. And the fact that her BFF is there and handles Pova so well.

Yeah I imagine she's inspired by her play this year and by beating her. I guess it depends on which Maria shows up that day. You never really know who's going to show up on court.

,

Kiu, I'm with you on Serena and Simona. Personally, I hope Serena comes out with her A game, 2-2 over Ana, I think it would be great for her confidence, given the roller coaster tide she's been on this year. Simona and Eugenie should be a close 3 setter, I just think Simona will handle the pressure better.
Hopefully the injuries won't come into play for anyone, as they all have had some rest prior to this week.

Regardless of the outcomes I hope they all play great tennis.
