Wawrinka v. Mahut final. I hope Mahut can pull it off...he deserves a win.

Nice, hadn't realized Mahut was doing so well here. Would like him to win too as he's got a great game on grass. Lovely old school S&V.

Why? Just curious why he would deserve it, I really don't care who wins. I find it difficult to root for Wawrinka on grass.

Well, the winner is the only one who deserves to win but Mahut's kinda disappeared of late. In fact haven't seen him in any tournaments since the last time he played at Wimbledon and Queens last year. Ranking just too low or was he injured and not playing for a while? Anyway, hope he wins.

He was injured last year in October and returned to play challlengers by end of february.
His ranking has plumetted and now he is at 240. Would be his first ever title, at 31y of age (new peak for tennis players:D)

(Good one, herios, about "new peak age!" ;)) I would add, sentimentally, that Mahut/Llodra lost the finals at RG this year in doubles v. Bryans, and Mahut was inconsolable. Also, he deserves to be more than a mere foot-note for that Isner match at Wimbledon, which wrecked both of them for quite a long time, but really put Mahut in a bad place, as he was already the lower-ranked.

I agree that the won who wins the tournament "deserves" it, strictly speaking. I'm just saying that Mahut is due, "karmically," if you will, and I hope he wins.

Delighted for Mahut and unfortunately missed it. Great win for him though. Always been a nice player to watch on grass. Reaffirms my belief also that Hewitt will beat Wawrinka as grass clearly isn't his (Wawrinka's) best surface.

I'm so happy! I got my wish today, also for Lopez in Eastbourne. And yes, Front, I am liking Hewitt's chances better now, too.

It was hard to watch Mahut during the doubles trophy ceremony. He was devastated.

But I agree with your final paragraph. Beautifully put: he deserved it karmically (which is a real word), yet players truly only deserve what they win.

Congrats to Mahut! It looked like it meant a lot to him, first ATP win and just coming back from injury. He will move to around 120 in the rankings.

Can anyone find another example in the past to have such a low ranked player (240 in this case) to have won an ATP event?

Never mind, I found the response myself to my question:
in 2008, Kei Nishikori won his first title at Deltay Beach, from a ranking # 244.

very glad for Nicolas. really feel like this is quite deserved. he had to go throug Qualis here, right? still, had his WC for Wimby - which makes sense. got a feeling they'll rarely say no when he asks for one :)

bummer for Stan - as i'd said, he would've been the year's swiss #1 if he'd taken the title. hope he can come back strong v ol' Rusty.

how would that have been possible? he trails Federer by 400 points in the race to London.

Poor guy. He wins his first title at 31 and they give him a runner's up plate. ;)

Happy for him. Well deserved Career highlight event.

it's easy - you just check the points right a couple of hours before the Halle points were added and make wrong assumptions ;)

thanks for the info :)
