Is Maria getting ready for a life without tennis? If the shoulder has major damage, can she return twice from an injury that is usually career ending?

Tough questions you are asking there Colleen.
;)
As a "Correspondent" I am going to ask a few myself!
Isn't it easy to blame an old injury to take some time off?
Hasn't Maria been "Decimated" in every Final she faced Serena?
Isn't it true Maria has no coach?

Could it be she is thinking--> OK, I am going to let Vika and the rest of the tour beat up on Serena for the rest of the year, then may be I come back by the time Moscow starts, I'll get a great tune-up, big time fanfare in Russia which I have never been to...Then I roll into the end the year at the YEC!!?

Would that not be a great Strategy?

She will most probably still be number 3 or at the worst Aggie may overtake her.
Kiu, you had me until "Vika and the rest of the tour beat up on Serena", not in this life time buddy, lol:laydownlaughing
That said, maybe time off is what she needs so she can prioritize whatever she has going on.
Any way, I hope that she takes care of her health problems and return quickly to tennis. The WTA needs fierce competitors such as Maria (Sugar) Sharapova!
PS, not trying to be snarky, but where are all the "silent ban" conspiracy theorists?

Colleen,
You are indeed being snarky, but if Maria says she's injured I have no reason not to believe her. She's only played one tournament since her early loss at Wimby and that match resulted in another early loss.

I think it is important to always give the benefit of the doubt concerning injuries. I would like to add that Sharapova always plays her schedule unless something is wrong. she has been one of the tour's staple players despite whatever has happened with other players.

There is something more to this than meets the eye

Hiring Jimmy, Loss to Sloane, firing Jimmy, Sugarpova,

The old Shoulder thing, Something is going on.

Exactly!!

First she pulls out of Rome; clock cleaned by Serena in Roland Garros Final; 2nd round loss at Wimby; loss to Sloane; Jimbo was a bust; Sugarpova stunt; and now the old "my shoulder hurts" routine. I guess she wasn't getting the full impact of the hip excuse. Serious shoulder injury my ass ~~ it's all in her HEAD!!

Players have misused the injury excuse forever. And Maria's

recent behavior and all the drama she has seemed anything

but stable.

Sugarpova:

On the morning of October 15 Dr. Altcheck performed a minor arthroscopic surgery that lasted 22 minutes on my right shoulder. The procedure was successful and very simple. I left the hospital a few hours after the procedure and flew to my home in Florida for 3 days and then I flew back to Phoenix to start working on my shoulder. The 10 weeks of shoulder strength before the procedure really helped the shoulder heal quicker. Dr. Altcheck thought my recovery would be very fast and he was right. I had full range of motion after 14 days, after 6 weeks I was throwing a foot ball and after 8 weeks I was back on the court where I belong.

Your point being? that was then...I know what kind of procedure it is by the way
Yes I was able to recover from the intial surgery as well.Still it didnt fix my problem at all.
I hope Maria dosent have to go through anymore surgery with her shoulder. That was my point
earlier when I posted what I had gone through.

There is certainly some merit to what special700 says. I maybe getting "soft" here, but I will give Pova the benefit of the doubt for the moment. I think she needs to go see a shrink, a chiropractor, a massage therapist and if need be a good surgeon. That all said, if she comes back all "sugary" and sweet after four months without any physical or mental problems(highly unlikely), then I will have a modicum of respect for her.
She will never be on my list of players I want to interview,( probably would never get the interview anyway), there are far more intriguing players I still want to interview and photograph besides her.:(

I did. And it wasn't good.

I think conspiracy theories are pretty unfair. Maria is my least favorite top tier player but I still give her some credit. Once she really committed to her post surgery comeback she has played pretty consistently at a large number of tournaments.

If anything I think the Connors move was a sign that she feels a lot of pressure from Serena and Vika to try and change something in order to produce the kind of weapons that can win her more slams.

I know the Serena zealots will skewer me for this but shame on you for throwing conspiracy theories at Maria when Serena's injuries have been questioned for years in the same manner. I said it about Serena and I will say it about Maria: unless they give us a reason NOT to believe their injury then who are we to say?

People are full of crap even when Serena had that cast on her foot and was near death on a hospital bed with an IV in her arm and a tube up her nose they still claim she was lying even to this day they still say nothing was the matter with her. I stick to my post - nothing is the matter with maria, she does not want to answer any question about the debacle with the candy and Jimmy connors...plain and simple.

No, that's not what she said. She said she feels she doesn't have to change anything in her game .. just improve on what she's already doing  Yup, that's what she said!! :puzzled

Now she's out of the US Open, but she's doing the promo thing in high heels (what hip injury) pushing Sugarpova. Baffling.

I think Special has commented on the Serena injury thing and

Maria's erratic behavior lately and situation is reason to question

the injury

That's unfortunate. She will lose SF points and fall further behind Vika. I wish her a speedy recovery.

If she is out for the remainder of the season, she will possibly end up behind Aga.
