Why? Because the ban was introduced in January after a year's monitoring. It doesn't matter to me if she used it before then, because it wasn't banned.

and no, it's not just Russians getting banned for it... various other non-russian athletes have been banned for it also.... but it's produced in the ex-Soviet bloc (Latvia) and is more prevalent in useage for athletes from those states.

NO I disagree.

the WADA itself is CORRUPT -- AS A TOOL of POLITICS BY THE USA AND BRITAIN --

basically one of their REMAINING TOOLS of ''global order" --

it is far TOO simplistic to say "the solution is people should stop taking drugs"

TELL that TO your CITIZENS in england -- and half would have to stop medicating!

tell THAT to 40 million american SENIORS -- and they'd drop dead TEN YEARS AGO.

tell THAT to ANY athlete ..and

we'd be watching -- wait -- MOST OF THEM arent' to be found on the courts!!!

You are aware WADA and USADA brought down "Mr America" Lance Armstrong and the US Postal Team Cycling team?

Teddy, the simplest workaround for these athletes is to stop taking drugs... not blaming the system and geopolitics.
I would love someone to tell me what geopolitics has to do with any of this! I can't read teddy's posts. They're too long and spread out for me. The simple fact is that Maria Sharapova gets more sponsorship in America than Serena Williams does. I hardly think she would be used as a Russia-bashing tool. Good grief! She sounds American

Maria Sharapova is making a scheduled announcement on Monday.

There are various rumours circulating including that of a retirement announcement.

Sharapova is 29 in April and has already retired from Fed Cup competition.

She has pulled out of several tournaments already this year with shoulder issues.

Her agent told Eurosport last month: "In order to play, she needs to be healthy, For this to happen, she will need to listen to the voice of her body, to the advice of doctors... But if her health is not good, it is unlikely that she will remain on the tour."

YES -- =AND SO?

this IS SUPPOSED TO what ? they ''brought him" down because it was ALL TOO OBVIOUS --= one of their OWN GOLDEN BOYS -- was far too suspect..with HIS own former associates leaking on him ...they couldn't hide it anymore...

which just goes to prove -- this ''moral rectitude| the WADA and their i;lk of the western ''rules makers" are ONLY SO GOOD -- SO LONG as THEY can hide their FILTH! TO preserve their ''world order "

but this one -- britbos -- this is FAR, FAR, FAR biogger than JUST armstrong OR sharapova ...

this IS ABOUT THE EMPIRE of the american-anglo tandem

that is SO DESPERATE to make RUSSIA KNEEL!

they ARE RUNNING OUT OF TIME -- as the CORRUPTION AND HOLLOWNESS of their ECONOMIES are beginning to be TRULY exposed for the RICKETY foundations of it all!

JUST you wait and see...i am right and will be right .

i give it -- basically -- at best -- 3-5 years ...

I share some of your views on western foreingn policy teddy... but this is irrelevant when considering the Sharapova case... and you're not making a coherent argument.

You agree that he admitted she took the drug, when it was banned... On that basis (geopolitics aside)... sell me an argument where she shouldn't be banned?

Disagree. The only reason Armstrong fell was because the FBI interviewed his teammates on pain of imprisonment if they committed perjury. That is the only reason the house of cards fell down... if the Feds hadn't got involved, Armstrong would still be sitting pretty with all those Tour De France titles under his belt.

GEOPOLITICS ASIDE...
she has to be ''disiplined" just to be very , very strict with all players --

perhaps NOT banned from the sports altogether -- but the best, imo, .

is to keep her from the FO -- or for the same amount or number of tournaments she had been llisted FOR and participated IN SINCE JANUARY 1.

end of story.

AND THEN --

WADA -- and ITS DECISION MAKING COMMITTEES AS WELL

as ANY POLITICAL CONNECTIONS AND ''Visits, , phone, calls, conferences, informal discussions -- "

ANY KIND OF COMMUNICATION between THEM and the USA/BRITISH ,CANADIAN and any official of ANY country in the DECISDING COMMITTEES..

should be investigated

as to the ACTUAL PROCEDURAL , MINUTES OF MEETINGS MATTERS!

tehn -- THEN the world will see _- who

WHO THE REAL CHEATS ARE!~

AND I BET YOU

they will cry 'foul" and ''national security!: "

You're talking about process rather than guilt. If the laws were followed to the letter, then she'd get a direct 4 year ban.

I'd hazard a guess that she'll get significantly less. 1 year probably.

She will just serve her 2 year suspension and comeback just like Martina Hingis. The tennis world will forget about it and she will be the best thing ever just like Hingis. I say this with sarcasm.
2 years , Serena will be gone and she will not have too much resistance to get back to the top 5..maybe she will go pop out a baby or somethingt til then

After taking PEDS for over 10yrs she may not be able to pop out a baby or she may pop out one with two heads.

You said earlier that America would protect it's own and Armstrong only fell because of weight of evidence. He only fell because the FBI investigated him and his team mates gave evidence becausethey were under oath and at risk of getting indicted. American athletics has covered up stuff before, but you are barking up the wrong tree with this example.

I agree. No HOF. :nono And if by chance they were going to let her in it would have to be on the merits of what she did before 2006. So that would mean 1 slam, no #1 ranking and x number of titles. Do they admit people who only have one slam and no stint at #1 into the HOF?

Michael Chang has one major title and was ranked #2. Although HOF is International HOF, I suspect his being American helped his cause. If Pova played for the US instead of Russia, she might have had a better chance.

Chang getting to #2 was an anomaly of '96 where he reached 2 major finals; losing AO and USO to Becker and Sampras respectively! Michael won his lone FO in '89 and had too many others ahead of him for a huge jump in the rankings at that time, but made the top 5! :ras:

I doubt she will be banned for longer than 6 months. Maybe 12, but probably not. She's too important in terms of ticket sales and TV viewership to ban her for 2-4 years. Plus, since it's something she had been taking for years, and was only banned this year, they're going to treat this differently than if she had been caught injecting steroids, for example.

That statement is such a false narrative. I do not see her putting any butts in seats don't know where the heck people get that from.

...or the "so called" rivalry with Serena! Don't you have to win on both side for that to be valid? :puzzled :nono  :p :ras:

Apparently WADA has found 99 adverse analytical results on meldonium usage so far since 1st Jan. However, they say some are due to testing the B-sample and so the number of athletes involved is less than 99. They are not giving the exact figure. It is rumored to be around 60. There are 16 names which are made public so far.

My question is whether this large number helps Maria or hurts Maria?

The answer depends on whether you want to believe her guilt or innocence. If the former, you would conclude that Pova was not using it for health reasons, but to gain an unfair advantage. If the latter, you would conclude that WADA did not do a good enough job distributing the updated list.

It is a sad day when people can twist this such that WADA has to defend itself.
