Jaded is just another way of saying fatigued. Why are people questioning it? She's withdrawn citing fatigue.

It also can mean bored and no longer interested in something

In the US usage, yes, but in the British usage, it is more neutral, and tends to mean only "tired." (And I see the citation is from an Indian publication, so they would use it more likely in the British way.)

This is an excellent point. Even though all parties are using English, there's still a lost-in-translation aspect.

Venus is still listed to play, anyone know if Venus is in Asia?

She must be. She's on tomorrow's order of play.

maybe Serena knows that the Asians love love their blondes ...they salivate over the likes of Sharapova,Caro and any bottle blonde...dont crucify me because pova said the same thing about the blonde thing.

The Chinese also love their “Xiao Wei” :

The charismatic Williams charmed the crowd throughout the week and was adopted by the capital’s fans who throughout her matches chanted her newly acquired Chinese nickname “Xiao Wei” (Little Williams). The 12 personal bodyguards assigned to “Xiao Wei” for the week struggled to keep up with the enthusiasm of the fans that followed her throughout the massive facilities of the young event, which has been earmarked, by Beijing and China to be developed into one of the world’s premier tennis tournaments.

Thanks for your post Moxie. As a Brit I had no idea why people seemed annoyed. The headline to me was just pointing out that Serena was "tired". Nothing more than that.

Thanks for clearing that up folks.

Now, the question is, will this hurt Serena's preparation for the Year End Championship?

Probably not Kiu. Last year after the Open she took 5 weeks off and didn't play until RR of the tour championships and went undefeated there winning all 5 matches in straight sets.

We know what the word means, but which word would you prefer to use if you had a choice between "niggardly" and "frugal" I am sure you would use frugal because it sounds better. To me jaded sounds very harsh. The first thing that came to mind when I read that was: Worthless, Ill-tempered, disreputable...etc.
