ARe you kidding me? Like RJD said Serena is the cleanest player on the WTA she has 17 majors and does not need to cheat to win titles. In that case then everyone who shouts common is cheating. Like i said don't hate her because she kicks your favs butts. I've said this before and I will say it again. Serena is not only a tennis player, but she is a student of the game she knows the game inside out she knows how to strategize, she can dig herself out of a hole like a magician, she has a very high understanding of the game and that is why she is so successful. She has a very high tennis acumen. Serena is not a ball basher. Until these other players learn the game like Serena and take it to her when they play her, Serena will never have a challenger in the WTA plain and simple.

You're confused.

First off, Serena will never beat Rafa - even with his dodgy knees - so don't bring my "favs" into it unless you want to look less than you are.

Second, it has nothing to do with her beating opponents or how many slams she won.

Thirdly, she was called on it by the ump, so it's a matter of record.

I suppose the umpire should be glad Serena didn't offer a gratuitous courtside tennis-ball enema, but maybe she's too nice to offer them to anyone except lowly linespeople...

AHhh, I see this is not about that Azderaki call at all, but

something much deeper. I see why Tossip posts that way

What does that mean, RJD? What hidden meanings are you finding? I suggest it's better to debate than make inferences.

“I was definitely stressed, and I was angry,” Serena told the New York Times Magazine. “I don’t foot-fault. Like, I have in the past, but this woman should never make a call in the semifinals of a Grand Slam on a person who doesn’t foot-fault. She was totally wrong. I’m sorry

As she has stated numerous times this summer, Serena reiterated that she feels like bad things always happen to her at the U.S. Open. Last year, she was called for a hindrance and assessed a point penalty when she yelled out before her opponent, Samantha Stosur, had a chance to return the ball she had hit. Serena lost the final to Stosur.

“I got a point penalty because of a grunt,” she said. “Meanwhile, I can name five girls who grunt way louder than I do, and the umpire didn’t even give them a warning. And then I had the ball called out that was this far in [in her 2004 loss to Jennifer Capriati]. It’s always something. I’m thinking, already, something’s gonna happen this year at the Open. I’m just thinking, Serena, say your prayers, fall on your knees. It’s frustrating, because it’s my home country, you’re playing for the home, but it’s like, the way the umpires have been makes me not want to play there. I’d rather play in Australia, or I’d rather play at Wimbledon.”

^ Thanks for backing up that old argument, but it still doesn't explain what you were implying about Kieran's post. You should realize that Kieran doesn't have a horse in the women's race...he's just debating. I think we should be careful about always going immediately to factionalism on this forum, because it quells real debate, which is not interesting.

To the original point, I agree with kskate that the comments seem to be sour grapes on the part of Jankowic. Serena was clearly ailing, and JJ failed to capitalize.

That Serena, always thinking and scheming.

She loses first set to Li to give her the impression she has no energy, then she blows a 3-0 lead in the second, and then nearly allows Li back on serve at 5-3 in the second.

Must have all been part of her master plan to make Na think she was without energy and that Na had a chance.

Hopefully, no one believes that and there is no reason to keep lampooning the notion.

It was a foot fault - so she shouldn't really have a beef with that and Clijsters was the better player on the day in any event.

She didn't get the point penalty for grunting - she got it for shouting "C'mon" when the ball was still in flight. It was a hindrance call - not a grunting penalty.

On the original point, it doesn't matter even if she was feigning tiredness. It's not gamesmanship.

I don't really have a view on this, but what I will say is that whenever players go down this road it almost always comes across as an excuse. Don't let it affect you, at this level a player shouldn't be falling for it anyway. In this particular case, I am finding it hard to believe either Jankovic or Li got lulled into a false sense of security and went off their game anyway, Serena's level was just wildly fluctuating. It's like they got robbed of a false opportunity they thought they were going to get from a gift win against Serena that for some reason they thought they were entitled too.

I love the way you stated it, and I absolutely agree with it.

Well, if you haven't noticed, that what this forum is about, the idea and accusation she was faking.

If you don't like the discussion, remember, you have the option to ignore. No one forced you to respond.

Exactly!!

Gamesmanship was when Jelena took that MTO in the China final when she saw Serena was having a back issue, or "fast serving."

As Li Na decides to make a theory about Serena, I will pose a theory as well.
After Li Na was asked to tell her coach to stop with the gestures and illegal coaching.
She only won 1 game after that.
Was it because of the gestures and illegal coaching that she got the lead.

BTW illegal coaching is when you coach from the sidelines.

This is the strange thing about the WTA forum, it's often like entering debates about exotic religious cults rather than flesh and blood tennis players...

I think ultimately Serena's aim was to get on and off the

court as quickly as possible. That is always what she tries

to do. While luring your opponent into a false sense of security

is a nice strategy, that was not on her mind. She wanted to get

off the court and start her time off.....But She hates to lose

So she'll dig deep and fight to win no matter how tired she is

and how far behind she is.

Serena has a record of great comebacks,Na li should know better that its not over until its over with Serena.I remember her saying that she was thinking about Venus loss against Na li and the way the locker room erupted when Vee lost kinda of depressed her and lost focus in her match against Azarenka.Vika raced to a 4-1 lead in the second set.I guess at that point decided to fight back and eventually won.
Here is the list of her famous comebacks
Clijsters she was 5-1 in the final set but cameback to win the match..2003
against Dementieva Wimbledon 09 semis
pova semis AO05
Azarenka was serving for the match USA Open 12 but lost the match..
Miami 13 against Cibby and pova...

When is it gamesmanship when there are some matches that you don't necessarily get up for initially but have the fortitude to gather your senses, control your emotions while being aware and staying in the moment while sameoustanously have the innate ability and physical combined mental strength to channel your fury to bury your opponent just when they thought the prize was theirs to claim. I call that the ultimate Champion.
