I agree. Their most recent clay encounter was last year's MC semi, which Fed won in straights, but Novak was compromised that day, so there's a bit of an asterisk on that one. Prior to that, you have to go back to the 2012 RG SF to find a clay match. Novak won that one fairly easily.

True, Fed has the ability to mix things up with Novak in ways most others can't, but Novak will make things hard for Roger. He'll get Fed running to hit FHs, for example, which is a big weakness, since he's not as quick as he used to be. And once Novak settles into BH exchanges, the point is all but over.

The final score of that 2012 RG match looked easy but Roger was ahead in every set and had multiple breaks only to give them all back. They both played pretty awful that day but Novak made less errors. That match was poor viewing from what we've come to expect from these two as their matches are normally pretty much top drawer stuff most of the time.

Yeah that was a weird match.

Actually not that easily. It was a very weird match.

I think Novak wins this one. However it goes, as long as each plays well enough, they'll be going into RG feeling good about life, as 1 and 2. Obviously, a win benefits Roger more than a loss hurts Novak. But they're both making a nicely-timed dirt-slide into Paris, and then will just be looking at the draw.

First final ever between the two of them on clay.
According to the script, this should be won by Nole

Fed stoped Nole winning steak two that time on RG, with that finger. Maybe he want to do it again, since Nole is on role again. A scalp which could give him some more value.

No maybe about it, he wants to win every time they play but it's not always up to him :)

Incredibly, the fifth big final between them since last years FO: Wimbledon, Shanghai, WTF, IW, and now Rome. Only four of these have taken place, and they're at 2-2, but with Roger winning both his in straights, and Nole struggling through in a final set both times he won...

Most impressive thing is that when Roger wins he does it pretty routinely but when Novak wins he barely scrapes past the old git in a 5th set or 3rd set winning by a handful of points. Still very tough to beat at almost 34.

Not that strange. Rafa used to be a fixture in any clay final of M100 or RG. The last 2 years things turned.

Both guys going for their 24th. Masters title as well.

Cool, didn't realize that. A lot at stake so. More so for Roger having never won Rome and his window for winning masters is getting smaller but Novak will have plenty of time left to add more.

Think we have to wait for Screamapova and Suarez-Navarro to finish.

Schedule says not earlier than 4PM in Roma, that translates in 10AM East in NA.

Sunny day... looks as though it will be a pretty fast court. Feddies should be quite chuffed with the conditions.
