Fonseca Zverev was a fun match and now Zverev gets his favorite opponent in the semis. Can he take a set for a change?

Following Vacherot the whole week. This guy refuses to go down in front of the home crowd, though he looks gassed now in the 3rd against De Minaur.
Don Hi!

Vacherot found his second wind in the 3rd set and won 63 appears to be on a 'mission' in front of his home crowd
I am Over Jannik getting Zverev now for 3 straight Masters 1000 SFs this year!

Watching TCC, it's been discussed that the #1 ranking is on the line! Carlos needs to win this to stay on top! Sinner doesn't have any pts. to defend from this time last season due to his suspension! I wasn't paying attn., but there's only 240 pts. between Carlos & Jannik!:fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::astonished-face:

BTW with Vacherot making the SF, first man from Monaco to ever do it, 2nd top ten win this week, 1 year ago he was #255, he'll be #17 on Monday ( or even higher) if he wins the title, last time he got to the SFs at Masters level he won it.

BTW,
With Alcaraz winning SF over Bublik he holds a 240 point lead over Sinner
If Sinner defeats Zverev in the SF and reaches the final, he would virtually over take Alcaraz to take the top spot in the live rankings, forcing the latter to win in order to reclaim first position
In the potential final, then, Alcaraz would need to beat Sinner to hold onto the No 1 position or if Alcaraz dosent reach the final, Sinner will take the top spot
BTW Sinner has no points to defend until Rome this year.

I don't know what Zverev is looking to accomplish here today on the court. Hope is not a strategy.

Hope dies last. Sinner was unplayable the first set. Zverev has absolutely no clue how to hurt Jannik and the results are telling.

Indeed Don, Jannik was unplayable first set, just too good from start to finish I hope this is the last time in a Masters 1000 SF they meet honestly I am soo over them playing each other, 3rd straight time in a Masters SF 1000 Meh!
Glaring factor in Zverev's game is his fhand it is poor and has done nothing to improve it since he has come on the tour

That's the thing...I don't think Zverev does anything better than Sinner. And he does not have one tactical thing he can repeatedly go for ( like Nadal hammering Roger's backhand with deep high topspin forehands for 15 years), so what has he got left? Attacking and redlining every possibility he gets, jumping on any ball that is remotely close to the service line, increase your pace , attack the net, lose on your own terms. Otherwise, you are just playing to get it over with ...which is meaningless.

Exactly. He should play with more of "all or nothing attitude". Dude lost like 7 or 8 matches in a row, he can't win a set and this makes no sense anymore. But on the other hand, Zverev never showed high tennis IQ and problem solving skills so he might just stick with the same old tactics as before.

Carlos killed him with dropshots. Pitty for that game which Vacherot lost when he was up 40:15 at 4:4 and Carlos called for a video review, then Vacherot lost his focus. Still a great week for Vacherot, he is fun to watch. Dream final tomorrow.

Zverev is just a high floor, low ceiling type of player. He is good enough to consistently get to quarterfinals and semifinals, maybe even win a tournament every once in a while, but not good enough to beat a much better player like Sinner. I actually think Zverev is making the most out of his skill set.

That said, I would have much rather have watched Fonseca, who has a much higher ceiling, take on Sinner today. Fonseca may not have won, but at least you know he has a puncher's chance.

Fun fact about Zverev. He's reached and lost in the SF of the first four big events this year. Pretty sure that's a first.

Points and performance-wise, he remains a solid third - third in race ATP points. Of course he's a distant third, and sort of the "best of the rest" without Novak's upside. So I'd say he's still the fourth best player on tour.

Quite frankly 'I am over Zverev meeting Sinner in the SFs at Masters 1000 for the 3rd consecutive time so far this year, Sinner dusted him up in straight sets 61 64, I only watch Zverev if he happens to be playing one of my favorite players, his game is boring and limited, and is too dependent on his serve and he lacks a B plan when his primary conservative, baseline game is not effective

The most pleasing factor of the Masters 1000 Monte Carlo is goes for 1 week
I wish the other tournaments Madrid and ( my home tournament) Roma will follow suit again one day, these 2 weeks Masters 1000 tournaments drag out, unnecessary, not fair to players, the people I talk to say it becomes boring, quite frankly does it attract more paying fans, like the ATP want us to believe.

This poor guy! He's only partially responsible for his plight! Unfortunately he came along when the Big 3 were still at their collective heights! He got no respite from greatness when Carlos & Jannik jumped into the fray! I don't give him complete absolution b/c he had the ability to best them all, but he was held back by his own self-doubt! He didn't totally waste his time as he did win 2 YEC's & an OGM in Japan beating Djokovic along the way back in 2021! He has to be an All Time top 10 Tour earner! IIRC, Djokovic won the 1st Four Big Events of the 2015 season! OTTH we're talking AO, IW, Miami, then Monte Carlo!:fearful-face::anxious-face-with-sweat::face-with-hand-over-mouth:
