Pretty exciting match there - just caught the last game. As I said in the wrong thread (Day 7), that's the best I've seen Federer serve in awhile. If he has that weapon working he won't be easy to beat for anyone, even Rafa or Novak.

On a different note, I'm starting to think this is the year Novak takes Rafa out. Rafa seems to lose a set in every match; while that isn't a big deal for normal mortals, for Rafa at Roland-Garros it means something's off and if anyone is going to exploit that its Novak.

Let's just hope its Tsonga or Federer in the Final as Novak vs. Ferrer would likely be quick and boring.

Ssssh, the Nadal fans won't like that ;)

Wait, you mean fans of a certain player won't like that he might lose to someone? Alert the media...

That's exactly what I mean. He loses to Rosol and Rosol is labelled a clown. That's what you're dealing with when it comes to some fans I guess. Djokovic at least will be above being labelled a clown.

It's still makes zero sense.

Rosol being labelled a clown is ridiculous, obviously (though it was made by one poster, as opposed to an entire fanbase). However, the post you quoted was discussing about the possibility of Djokovic beating Nadal, and you said "Nadal fans won't like that."

A) This has nothing to do with Rosol being labelled a clown.

B) Isn't that normal? That fans won't like it that their player might lose to someone?

If someone is likely to beat Federer, would you like it? So why is that a big deal exactly?

I've no idea why you took the whole thing I said up the way you did. I was simply replying to El Dude's comment that a Djokovic v Ferrer final would be boring as hell because it meant Nadal had to lose for that to happen. It could still easily be a Nadal v whoever final so hence the "Nadal fans won't like that." The Rosol comment was a rebutal to the fact that you took my comment up totally the wrong way and was in no way directed at you. But also, if Federer loses I won't label the person who beats him a clown. Again, not directed at you but at the ball bag who made the initial comment re Rosol.

funny - i wanted to ask you to keep the "rosol/clown" debate in the original thread, but then remembered that even that was a detour from the Soderling thread. anyway, it would be nicer if we put this one behind us anyway :)

Agreed. I mean that thread was meant to be about Soderling and how it got on to Rosol was a silly comment that he'd been forgotten already which he clearly hasn't by anyone who appreciates tennis. The guy was world number 4, dropping Murray to number 5. Yeah, sure he's been forgotten already. I was also going to edit out ball bag even though technically it's not even a swear word but left it in for good measure as I still think it's ridiculous that a player should be labelled a clown for playing an amazing match and beating a top player. Anyone back on topic with this thread there were decent matches today. 2 exciting 5 setters. Looking forward to tomorrow's matches which thankfully I can watch as it's a bank holiday here tomorrow.

Was Ferrer that good or was anderson just not good enough? Anyone saw?

Anderson played absolutely horrible. So many UE, it looked like he was playing a different game. Ferrer was good too though.

If things stay as they are yes. However, Rafa got some practice today and might be able to pick up his level in the second week. I remember Federer playing horrible the first week last year at Wimbledon and cruising through the second week quite comfortably.

I hope the passing away of Jelena Gencic will inspire Djokovic to deliver his best against Nadal. The match of the year for sure.

Front242.. please tell the board why AP labeled Rosol the Clown.. Go cut and paste from that post. it clearly states that it was due to his antics during that match of this journeyman 1st strike tennis player. Also, I clearly state that others have beaten Rafa and I never disrespected their game.. Let's be clear and its obvious I don't give a damn if anyone agrees with me on Rosol.

I think you are way off base saying something is ridiculous when your basic premise is that I said it because the guy defeated Rafa, this isn't the case.

Soderling is a much better and accomplished player than Rosol. Rosol is a bit of a despicable Clown but I see where Front is going with this one, they both scored huge upsets over a very jaded Rafa. Unlike some fans, every player that gets the best of Rafa on one given day doesnt go into Antipusher's rogue of Rafa's villains. However, Soldering and Rosol games are not as entertaining as Gulbis, JMDP or Djoker all of whom provides very difficult matchup problems for Rafa but I always pay respect to their games.

Now explain to us all Front 242 :

if Federer loses I won't label the person who beats him a clown.

I clearly state my reasons, can you

There is no member "Ball Bag." If you can cite where this post came from, that would be useful, A-P. As to the Soderling thread, it was Front who first brought up the "clown" notion, which, in fairness, A-P, you bit on. I respond to Front to say, like Broken, the Nadal fan base does not consider Rosol a "clown." Try to resist painting us all with the same brush.

I suspect this is going to be a tetchy week, with a RG more up for grabs than it has been in years, and the LOOMING SF on Friday. Do please try not to poke at each other, overmuch. Thanks.

A-P your premise is that Rosol was celebrating in an "in-your-face" manner? Those were the so called "antics"? I don't think we Nadal fans have the right to complain about over the top celebrations.

And Rosol is a "despicable clown" because he was fired up and showed attitude in the biggest match of his career? Please.

This doesn't make sense.. Where does it say that I speak for all the Rafa fans or whomever. there isn't a need to clarify what I said, there is no changing it. When I make a post I post what I feel, I don't speak for a group of Rafa fans or whomever. Front didn't like what I said, so what.

Again, we are not a tribe. When you post you are BS, Moxie is moxie, and I am AP. I don't post as a Rafa fan.. There are some topics that I agree with Front on but this isn't one of them.

BS, you cant tell another poster that we don't have a right to complain when the post wasn't about just his celebrations.

The manor\way that Rosol spits on the court is despicable and his behavior is very clownish like. I know am not the only poster who felt that way.

This whole Rafa Fan crap has got to stop. I can handle Front and I don't feel the need to be reeled in. When posters continue on a thread mocking the President, Do I say, well, " you are misrepresenting the Rafa fan base or whatever." No.. I went straight to the source and said it was wasn't appropriate.

This all started because I said I didn't notice that Soderling "wasn't' on the tour. Well, it was the Truth, I didnt. Front feelings got hurt, so what.

My feelings didn't get hurt I just find it amusing that the guys who caused the biggest upsets of your favourite player are dismissed in such a way. Soderling you didn't notice wasn't around. Really? He was world number 4 back then. And Rosol? Cut the guy some slack he played incredible. Players spit all the time at soccer matches. Yes, it's gross but I can't say it's any worse than picking your ass before you serve every single time, which let's face it is more than the number of times Rosol spat. What's even more gross is players who lose to your favourite player have to then shake said ass jam stained hand, which again is clearly worse. I've nothing but respect for Soderling when he beat Nadal in '09 and then backed it up by beating Federer (who also played a very high quality match and was simply beaten by a better opponent on the day same as Nadal) the following year.

Fed didn't call Tsonga a clown for doing this. It was pretty hilarious actually.

^ trying to lighten up the mood? i hope so. either way, Haas apparently did it funnier, and hence more efficiently, as he actually won the point. both had a good laugh. (also, do yourself a favor and stop the clip before the slowmo of Fed's face. superslowmo facial expressions always look creepy, and Fed's is even... oh well.)

Yeah that was a great moment at Halle :) I actually have high hopes Haas will defend there this year.

^ look again, it was Wimby. i'd love for Haas to defend in Halle, but with the extra workload from at least one more round at RG, it's not getting more likely.

I like to see Haas go as far as he can.. He is a very deserving player

go back and reread my post , I said the 'way he spat".. As for Rafa, I have said this for years, I wouldn't shake his hand afterwards of a match either.. I would just give him sideway knuckles or as we say, dukes. :snigger
