Novak fought like a lion yesterday. Left it all out on the court. This old version of him reminds me of an old Fed. He does many things well, but when it comes to capitalizing on opportunities, clutch situations, Sinner is just level above at it's very visible.I don't see him beating the New 2 in a slam either and said as much last year. He needs several things to happen to even reach the final:
Friendly draw
Someone else to do the dirty work so he can face either a rookie or a pigeon in the final
Another problem for Novak apart from the age is that his return declined by a lot. It is the reason he is struggling so much to break Sinner's serve. On 2nd serve returns he is not doing enough or randomly sprays long.
All in all, hard to expect for him to go through Carlos or Sinner or both in a future. That AO match with Carlos was a complete choke job from the spaniard, which he should never repeat again.
