She breaks Ebony and takes the opener 6-4

Remind me why people call her Ebony Smooth?

Because she's Ebony in color and usually very smooth with her movement and game when she's not making errors. :)

OK, that part I was able to work out by myself, but who made it up? And does anyone call her that outside of the Frontier?

Don't think it's used outside of this board. It might have been started by RJD or Sunday.

Thanks for illuminating. I had only the vaguest of recollections. :)

Simona is looking good now :D

Still a few too many errors from her in this match (DF's especially). She needs to clean that up heading toward the better players. Overall, I like her chances to get to the final on this side of the draw where she could have a rematch of the Madrid final w/ Maria.

The women's side is working out great for me! All the players I really, really, wanted out of the F.O. are out! Of course, some I didn't want out are also :(

Has anyone noticed that Muguruza and Suarez Navarro are playing doubles? And that if they win their next singles matches, they'll meet? That could be awkward ...

Oh how I hope Garbine beats Masha. That will be fantastic. Then I am pulling for Bouchard and if those two square off I don't know what I will do. I want both to win. I hope Simona is in the final and would almost as pleased if she emerges the victor.

I noticed that the other day. It could explain why she's so sharp this tournament. I've seen her in the past and she usually commits more errors than winners. But her consistency last week was excellent. This is a case where playing doubs on your off-days has really tuned up her game.

FYI: The Kuznetsova/Safarova match has been moved to Court 1, and is starting now (it was originally scheduled to follow Murray/Verdasco).

^ It's insanity that they put them on so late.

I agree.

Fortunately, Svetlana is tearing through this. She's already up 6-3, 3-0 in 45 minutes.
