Bamos, Dominic!

He won't win, but what a great experience for the kid, getting Rafa on the biggest stage at the French. I hope he is not so overwhelmed by the occasion that he wilts, because if he plays his "A" game, I think we'll see him push Rafa a little, and earn some more fans along the way.

Some people have complained about Murray being demoted to court 1 but I think it's understandable given that Nadal, Ferrer, Monfils and Gasquet are the matches ahead of him.

Nadal should absolutely be on Chatrier. It's not surprising that Gasquet and Monfils would be favoured over Andy as they are the home players. I'd be lying if I said I was happy to see the Wimbledon champion on the 3rd court but it is what is. As long as he wins. I doubt Andy will be too concerned.

It will be interesting to see if they put Novak on Lenglen at some point. Peugeot sponsor the tournament AND Novak. What do you guys think?

^As the tournament progresses, I think it gets more unlikely any top player would play anywhere except Chatrier. The demotions are usually for the first couple of rounds and they are justified in that there are a lot of matches to get through, IMHO.

Agree. Think people are being silly. Could care less if novak was on lenglen or court 1. He probably would not have been on court 1 yesterday had he not played chardy. I personally like that they give the home players top billing in the early rounds. It must be really fun to be a french fan and get to see your player on the main court. Let's be honest, if you wait till week two for that, the chances of it happening will be slim. Who cares what court Fed or Rafa trample over a qualifier on?

Very true but the tournament made a point of saying that fans with tickets for Lenglen deserved to see THE top players. If Novak doesn't play at least one match on Lenglen then surely that's not fair to Novak fans that haven't been lucky enough to get Chatrier tickets.

only if they promise to see all the top players... But be honest Novak had a much more difficult first round opponent in a top 50 bonafide clay court specialist, where as rafa was facing a guy who hasn't been in the top 200 for quite some time. In round 2, he was most likely on chartier, because was playing one of the better french players. These seem like no brainer choices to me.

Also agree. I don't think there are "slights" or "demotions," only scheduling decisions. I doubt the players give 2 figs, compared to the way it plays out on the internet.

I'm not a huge fan of RG but I don't envy their task of producing a schedule. Having to accommodate the top players + the numerous French players must be a logistical nightmare.

That makes sense. It's my favorite slam (in spite of the regular winner...). Different strokes for different folks as they say.

There was a huge fuss on twitter with Rafa being on Lenglen for his 1st match. Rafa didn't seem fussed at all. However, I did read that he was a little concerned with the clay on Chatrier. I know Andy doesn't really like the dimensions of Lenglen. I'm sure they all have their preferred court. Whether they make a fuss about which one they get allocated to is another matter.

[split] Roland Garros Day 5: Thursday, May 29 - Order of Play

I'm really looking forward to seeing how Thiem handles Rafa. Already his style makes me think he'll be one of my favs going forward!

Wow! Is Donald Young about to start justifying his early promise. Looking good against Lopez. He seems to be quietly getting his sh*t together

Donald Young beat Lopez? Something must be wrong with Feliciano.

Haha! Young is not THAT bad. It doesn't stretch the bounds to think he can take Lopez if he's on. I would think Young would be better from the baseline than him

LOL yeah, just saw tennis.com live scores and baffled that Donald Young won. Good to see Dr. Ivo moving on too. Probably the best he's done at a slam in years.

Thiem is playing too far back to make any damage. His shots not penetrating at all since Nadal gets everything.
Nadal is ready for this one it seems like. Very businesslike.

Yeah, not exactly too much Thiem on his hands.
