A interesting match up will be Stephen's v Peng.Peng has won their two previous matches easily, though Sloane reached the 4th rd at her last five slams.Sloane will need to step up in this match, otherwise her ranking will stumble.

I noticed that one. Also, Ivanovic v. Caroline Garcia. Not that Ivanovic will be upset, but Garcia has had some good results of late, and she's French. She'll have the crowd. Ivanovic will need to start sharp. I could be wrong, and it might not be troublesome at all, but Ivanovic doesn't want to go out nervy in this one.

Agree....I have been impressed so far with Caroline,of course she will have the French Crowd cheering for her.In saying that Ana's results have been consistant.Hopefully she wont be nervy in her first rd match.

Also looking foward to watching Halep v Klebyanova.

That is very confusing. Why aren't they doing it the regular way like the US Open and the other slams. This seems like one of those regular tournaments when the top players get a bye.

One reason is that Roland Garos always starts on a Sunday....where the other GS start on a Monday

This is the beginning, the first round consists of 64 matches, it takes 3 days to schedule those 64 matches so as a result, the players who start the first day, get 2 days off. That includes Serena and Venus.
The bottom of the draw play Tuesday, that includes Caro, who is playing her old buddy Yanina, this is the first match for Caro post Rory, lets see if she does what Rory did a couple of days ago(win a tourny).
Also interesting is Maddie vs. Sara...Lets see if Sara recovered?

Li v Mladenovic....another Frenchwoman that at times can be dangerous
Their match is on Lenglen...of course the French Crowd will be on Kristana's side

Last time they played was the only time and it was right here in 2010. The same round too, Li won in straights.
With these two, anything can happen. Li can fire 60 UFE...

But I think it'll be Na in 2

Hi Special,

Actually, the US Open also plays the first round over three days. It's Wimbledon and the Australian Open who don't.

^ She's going to serve for the match at 6-0, 5-0.

EDIT: And she gets broken. She'll probably finish it now, though, and win 6-0, 6-1. That's my guess.

Kleybyanova avoids a double bagel in the 2nd set and breaks Halep when she was serving for the match 5-0.

T be fair Alisa's shoulder problem has hampered all facets of her game, serve and ground strokes

Kelbyanova held serve and Halep will try to serve the match out 5-2

Svetlana is through to the next round with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Shapatava. :clap

I've always liked Kuznetsova, so I hope she does well. (For the record, I never refer to her as "Kuzy" because I saw an interview with her once, and she said she hates it.)

Yep she sure hates being referred as Kuzy.....by the way her outfit was quite subdued today.....;)
