Looks like there is no one left in Rafa's side of the draw that can remotely challenge him until the semis and even there, it is Murray, or whomever that can get there.

I am not seeing this as a positive by the way. He will cruise through easy matches and next thing you know, you have Nole on the other side of the net and you have not played anybody remotely close to THAT level.

We'll see how this plays out.

He'll be nice and fresh. I think he was complaining in Rome that he was out on court too long, he won't have that excuse this time. In any event, I'm not too worried. Rather happy that Novak get's to close the gap on the h2h once more if Novak makes the final.

Meanwhile Monfils is having braincramps against Hanescu. I kind of like both players though, so I don't really care.

Murray double faults to give a break, Golubev says "anything you can do..." and gives the break back with a DF of his own.

Golubev should hire a coach strictly for shot selection advise. He has a lot of good ones, doesn't know when to hit them.

Sounds like Murray can't buy a first serve. Another break chance Golubev.

Yes, Golubev is one of those guys who could be a lot better than he is. No point construction whatsoever and naturally not the toughest individual upstairs.

Poor Hanescu. Monfils is in full clown mode, trying to entertain the crowd with ridiculous momentum swings. Yet leading 2 sets to 1.

Murray looking pretty underwhelming. He still is completely confused as to how he should approach clay.

I really think that Gael should be on some sort of medication or he is suffering from some type of peronality disorder which causes him to seek attention. I gave up on him a few years ago when Rafa was injured and he refused to make a valid attempt to win the crown. Class clowns typically dont become HOFers or CEOs.

If by the mention of injured Nadal you mean when Soderling beat him, then Monfils did very well to beat Ferrer in 5 sets (8-6 in the 5th) and then lost to Federer but there's no shame in losing to Federer. So if that's the year you mean then I dunno why you've classed it as not a valid attempt to win the crown since Federer is the 2nd best clay courter of his generation after Nadal. Monfils wasn't expected to win that match and it was no great shock that he didn't. He should definitely be doing better things in his career but many of his mad (but highly entertaining) jumps around the court have given him loads of unnecessary injuries. He wasn't injured then though.

Wow. I wake up to find both Aussie champs gone after the first round of the French. Wow. It's Serena's to lose. Nadal still needs someone to trip up Djokovic to keep his crown though. Surprising to see Baby Fed gone as well. At this point, he is more hype than anything still. Good to see Murray get through. Would love, love, love to see him him overcome all odds and take this French Open but I know it won't happen.

We'll see how this plays out.

We have reached a point where there are only unnamed players in Rafa's quarter. :snigger

Normally, I wouldn't think this is such a problem, but in this case I agree, and mainly due to Rafa's serve. Rafa can pretty much go through the first week with WTA serving and cruise through his matches, and by the time he runs into Djokovic, it will be way too difficult to flip the switch and start serving 200 Kph serves, or find angle on his slider out wide.

In fairness, he's still scheduled to face Ferrer in the quarters and that's not an easy match, and one in which Rafa's serve will need to be on point.

I don't think that will be a problem for Rafa. Getting through with confidence and improving his serve will be more important.

I know this isn't quite working out according to your plan, GSM. If not Murray, who do you like: GGLopez, Monfils, or the Fog? (I think they're the most likely others to get through. I'm kinda bummed I didn't pick GGL as my WC. He's got a decent shot at QFs.)
