A very good start for Rafa and Nole... I did enjoy their match... but so sory for Dimitrov, I liked him to stay.. but there should be one winner in tennis.

Women's #6 seed is gone. Hope the men's #6 seed goes away soon too. :plot

Who's the men's 6 seed, Nadal? You'll be hoping w/ baited breath. This is his main tournament of the year, I can't imagine he'd go anywhere until he faces Novak. :nono

I agree. But, I hope it stops there though.

Ok. Now, we should get back to talking about women as this is women's thread.

Oh Bouchard...Bouchard. What is going on?! Cannot believe how fast she has fallen off. And it's getting to the point almost where it's no longer just a phase. Red alert.

Jankovic. Sigh. I really wish she could have won at lease one Grand Slam before retiring but it's really looking unlikely.

Kvitova scared the crap out of me but she won a tough one. Maybe this will get her going.

Serena won in straights. Good...anyone her how her arm (elbow?) was feeling after the match?

Yes GameSetAndMath.. Sorry I went a little away.
I enjoyed Petra Kvitova's match, as she suffered a little but recovered at last.

Welcome to the forums Shamal90. I was just trying to protect you (and me) from getting the wrath of the moderators. BTW, there is a separate thread with the same title in the Men's forum to discuss men's matches. As the titles are similar, sometimes people get confused and mispost in the wrong thread.

I have to say I was glad to see Serena in good spirits out there. That is the type of attitude and relaxed but focused play that is going to take her to the title.

Right I agree. We all know if Serena makes the second week there's a pretty good chance she'll win. As far as the French Open goes she's more likely to lose to an unknown in the first week then if she makes the second week.

That's rich, considering you're the one who initially brought men into the discussion.

Genie breaks and holds twice to get it back to 5-4 30-30, but Kristina finally wins MP. 6-4 6-4

On the positive side, she will have more time to pursue the sponsors now. :snicker

What is the status of Serena's arm?

I won't miss Bouchard who has the ugliest strokes on tour. This first round is a bit more evidence that I might be right. She got far last year because of her mentality. In my opinion, the most important attributes in a player are: hand-eye coordination, speed, power, tennis IQ, mental toughness. Serena has all five, which is why she is considered by many to be the GOAT. Bouchard has the first and last elements. If a string of losses causes her to lose confidence, she is in huge trouble.

Serena seemed to show no signs of issues. Like I said earlier, she was in very good spirits and very positive with no signs of nerves or anything. Not that she had any reason to be nervous as she can certainly improve upon her showing last year. She seemed to be enjoying herself out there.

Serena did look relaxed but her dynamics with that french crowd is always bubbling on the surface.I just dont understand why she seeks approval from these awful people.
Genie has no confidence and I saw the look on her face when she was coming on court...she made that look like ...not again. Her frame looks very slender...last year she looked atheletic this year she has lost muscle tone..
Jankovic is a spendforce...all that running has caught up with her.I remember her mocking Mary Pierce at RG when 31yr old Mary said that she will continue playing...she laughed in her face..

They should love her, considering all of her Parisian connections. Plus she speaks French. (Fluently, right?)

They should but I don't think they do. This goes way back, but she got brutalized frequently in the early days (especially during the Henin era).

What's most surprising, of all the slams, she get's the most and huge crowd support in Australia.

Tented and all ,I didn't see the matches but it's amazing how Henin turned that fickle French crowd against Serena who didn't do anything wrong
