A few pointers from my side:
(1) None of the lost US semi finals with Nole up there.
(2) For a 5 time USO champ, not one there (and this is a bit more embrassing for Nadal at FO as a 7 time champ, soon maybe 8 too :) ). Shows their dominance, of course.
(3) Nothing sacriligeous about the five, so what if it comes from Roger? Ten other times he makes the list, expect Safin match to eliminate Nalby 05 YEC. Seriously, where was the quality in the later. Give me AO 09 anytime.
(4) The Nadal demolition of Rog begin at FO08. 4 games over 3 sets.

I don't think it's so tough to lose one-sided matches, he never had chances so he could quickly move on. The real tough ones are those he should've won, yet escaped him. That feeling would be common to a lot of players. Ask Nadal about the AO loss to Tsonga, not that tough since he was never in the match.

Cool thread. I remember something similar with Nadal. During his injury layoff last year I catched some interviews in spanish (translated in english) on youtube where he was asked about his most memorable and greatest matches. Unfortunately I don't have the links anymore but I tried to put together his answers as I still have them in my mind. Some choices are interesting just like his win over defending Paris champion Albert Costa in Monte Carlo when Nadal was still 16 years old. Others are obvious candidates. He took a lot of time to answer it, I think about 10min and he named many of them, surprisingly also some he lost. I'll try to find it on youtube. The interview wasn't run by Wilander, it was a beautiful spanish lady. :)

2003 vs. Costa - 2nd round Monte Carlo
2004 vs. Roddick - Davis Cup Final
2005 vs. Federer - Miami Final
2005 vs. Coria - Rome Final
2005 vs. Federer - Paris Semifinal
2005 vs. Agassi - Montreal Final
2005 vs. Ljubicic - Madrid Final
2006 vs. Federer - Monte Carlo Final
2006 vs. Federer - Rome Final
2006 vs. Federer - Paris Final
2007 vs. Davydenko - Rome Semifinal
2007 vs. Federer - Wimbledon Final
2008 vs. Djokovic - Hamburg Semifinal
2008 vs. Federer - Paris Final
2008 vs. Federer - Wimbledon Final
2008 vs. Gonzalez - Olympics Final
2009 vs. Federer - Melbourne Final
2009 vs. Djokovic - Madrid Semifinal
2010 vs. Verdasco - Monte Carlo Final
2010 vs. Soderling - Paris Final
2010 vs. Djokovic - US Open Final
2010 vs. Murray - YEC Semifinal
2011 vs. Del Potro - Wimbledon 4th R.
2012 vs. Djokovic - Australian Open Final
2012 vs. Djokovic - Rome Final
2012 vs. Ferrer - Paris Semifinal

I guess I missed some, but these are pretty much all he mentioned if I remember correctly.

#4 is a great one that I don't think was mentioned yet. #5 is also a good mention. That match might have been the toughest as far as dealing with wind and of course the crowd was pulling hard for Andre.

I know, some people tend to downplay Roger's 2009 RG crown because Rafa failed to make it to the final and ignored what Roger went through; specially in that Sf match to make it to the final. It was a GUT call...and he answered like the Champion he is.

The Agassi match, what can I said.........Andre was on his game, and again; people ignored this match because Agassi was "old".

I knew you would like those two matches :clap

That's a pretty comprehensive list. I'm sure he mentioned the Verdasco semi from the 2009 AO though, no?

You are right, he mentioned so many, also some matches with his mentor and friend Carlos Moya but I can't remember which ones.

Back to Federer, his 2009 RG SF with Del Potro is a brillant call by huntingyou. It was an incrdible tough match for Fed because Delpo served out of this world for 3,5 sets. That was unlike anything I've seen before since Pete's heydays at Wimbledon. Roger was under huge pressure in his own service games to stay in the match as Delpo fired from the baseline like a man possessed. It's a miracle Fed didn't lose in straights. He had to fight tooth and nails to even keep himself in the score. At the end he was simply the last man standing with Delpo totally gassed, similar to the Wimby final 2009. A remarkable and heroic effort by Roger to win it.

Must be Chennai 2008. Nadal beat Moya 6-7 7-6 7-6. It was, until Nadal's match with Djokovic in Madrid the next year, the longest best of 3 set match in history.

I saw an interview with Roger's father a few years ago, and he said the '04 USO QF was his favorite match.

I remember that. Moya was still playing at a very high level back then. Very exciting to watch. That match was definitely better than the match against Karlovic in Queens with a similar score :p
