Andujar got through via either retirement or walkover v. Klizan. ATP calls it a retirement, but at 0-0? That's odd, no? Did he get hurt in the warm-up? Side-bar question: It is my understanding that a walkover is not charged as a win or loss, but a retirement is charged as a loss. Is that correct?

Report on ATP says Klizan had a bad stomach. By the way, Karlovic retired with a similar issue in Delray Beach, after only one game.

I have to say I am not sure how the retirement or Walkover is counted for, but even if it was 0-0, I think it was declared as a retirement, because he showed up for warm-up.

I'm pretty sure that...
* a walkover = a no decision
* a retirement = a win/loss

And now Hewitt has retired in Del Ray Beach, as well.

I use the term 'mug' loosely, really. I just don't like how he vultures his 250/500 titles and seldom performs well at the bigger events.

Ah…general-purposes insult, then. (Brazil IS a 500, btw.)

A walkover is labeled when they don't take the court. If they take the court and the player warms up and pulls out or even plays one point and retires, it counts as a retirement which is a loss.

I guess there is no monetary implication for the two players either way as long as it
is 2nd round or later. But, if it is first round, there is a monetary impact. Did you all
know what happened in AO women's 1st round. I am pasting the following three lines
from Jon Wirtheim's article.

"On the other hand, what do we make of Polona Hercog retiring after one game in her first-round match? She won one of the six points played and pocketed $30,000. Hey, she earned her main-draw spot and is entitled to the plunder. You can't begrudge her that. But it's not cool (or professional) to enter an event you're unfit to play, depriving a colleague of a spot and cheating the fans out of a competitive match."

Dog is doing good in Rio. Having Magician as the coach is paying off, perhaps.

Magician is one of my favorite players, who never achieved anything important.

Wow, that's an interesting point. I have yet to find out what happened to Klizan. As is pointed out, he got the points and the money for the round, anyway, so it's not a scam. I wonder if he was hurt in the warm-up, or just prior.

Let's not go there. Klizan defeated in R1 GG Lopez, so there was no replacement for him, no matter how sick he was.
Plus I mentioned already, the cause of retirement was "bad stomach", which could be very easily triggered by a bad meal. One minute you feel just funny, the next you need to run to the washroom...

Well, Joao Sousa has beaten two Spaniards on his way to this match. Could it be a third?
