Andujar got through via either retirement or walkover v. Klizan. ATP calls it a retirement, but at 0-0? That's odd, no? Did he get hurt in the warm-up? Side-bar question: It is my understanding that a walkover is not charged as a win or loss, but a retirement is charged as a loss. Is that correct?
I have to say I am not sure how the retirement or Walkover is counted for, but even if it was 0-0, I think it was declared as a retirement, because he showed up for warm-up.
A walkover is labeled when they don't take the court. If they take the court and the player warms up and pulls out or even plays one point and retires, it counts as a retirement which is a loss.
I guess there is no monetary implication for the two players either way as long as it
is 2nd round or later. But, if it is first round, there is a monetary impact. Did you all
know what happened in AO women's 1st round. I am pasting the following three lines
from Jon Wirtheim's article.
"On the other hand, what do we make of Polona Hercog retiring after one game in her first-round match? She won one of the six points played and pocketed $30,000. Hey, she earned her main-draw spot and is entitled to the plunder. You can't begrudge her that. But it's not cool (or professional) to enter an event you're unfit to play, depriving a colleague of a spot and cheating the fans out of a competitive match."
