Nobody can touch Navratilova, when you look at number of titles, years on the tour, nobody comes close to her.:D

Graf was helped by Monika's stabbing as well (that was for you BB) :laydownlaughing

One things for sure, that's the first time I've seen Kim Clijsters ranked above Chris Evert in a greatest of all time list.

Thats correct. :) Kim was never anyone's pigeon like Evert was. The vulture was Navratilova but still a pigeon is a pigeon. And... I remember very well Evert's style of play. Not my favorite, too monotonous for my taste.
Kim was much more aggressive and adventures player. my type.

You take this "poll" too seriously imo. I take it more lightly, its impossible to rate players over 30 years period. Too many to choose and cant be an accurate science.

What can I say? I saw Margaret Court here in Chicago against Martina back in '75; Virginia Slims of Chicago final! Navratilova beat Evert and Court took out Wendy Overton in their respective semi's! Hard to forget; I'm old! :nono

I am sure they are all pieces of great quality tennis but I look at the game a bit differently. I count the "new tools". The power, the movement, the speed of the game. The new equipment helped a lot of course, but thats how it goes in my head. Its a subjective thing and I dont even mind to be wrong. :) I always like to learn new things and old things which are new to me.

For me, comparing past with present tennis is like comparing old car with new car. The old car may have been great at the time, maybe had better quality in some domains, but it cant beat an average new car of today. Its just the way life evolves, not just tennis of course.

Martina's records; both of them will never be broken IMO; length of tenure for Navratilova and of course Hingis' youth with her accomplishments!

Mark Spitz the legendary American swimmer won more gold medals in one olympics than Phelps but he has no chance against him. His racing times are much slower than the average swimming level of today... past and present are two different things.
Counting titles doesnt make it for me. Thats why Serena is on my top of the list, purely because of her tennis level.
Dont go mad, restrain ;) I am not trying to tease you, thats my real (stupid?) opinion.

Even if you don't want to count just titles, I've always had a real problem with Serena; coming and going as she pleased, being a rotten representative of the WTA losing it on several occasions at her home MAJOR! I can't remember Martina, Chris, Graf, or Seles getting fined and probation with threats of being suspended! So much for being religious acting out like that more than a couple times! Disgusting!

Thats a question of perspectives in life, like in her IW story. :) Personally I dont find anything wrong with Serena's behaviour. She has a right as a free person to not play and get out of the WTA circuit when she needs to. So I am ok with her behaviour. I have no need to score point on you or something, I just say that imo her level of play is the highest I have seen. Thats all. Its opinions and I fully respect your opinion as a fan. You probably know more about tennis than I do. I mean it, its not ironic.

Since some of the true greats are still playing, some names will flip I'm sure:

1) Navratilova - 18 majors (59 total) holds so many records incl., 9 Wimbledons & 4 USO's
2) Graf - Cal. yr Gr Slams and Olympic Gold- 22 majors due to Seles being stabbed in '93
3) Court - Calender year Grand Slam and has 62 majors in singles, doubles, & MD
4) Evert - 18 majors including 7 French Opens and 6 USO's on 2 surfaces
5) S. Williams - 16 majors so far in singles, Olympic Gold in singles and doubles (3)

6)
7) - - Too open to interpretation at the time they played - -
8) - Henin, V. Williams, Hingis, and Goolagong probably should be listed in here somewhere
9) - Pre-Open era stars like Moody, Lenglen, & Connolly with honorary mentions

10) BJ King - 12 majors and the mother of the WTA making prize money equitable

This is just from memory! If any errors, feel free to let me know and make your choices for the top 10 of all time for the women!

You know Serena has 17 majors in singles Fiero, since you follow

her career so closely.

I don't think anyone would expect you to update all of your past posts, however if you're going to maintain a thread devoted to the women's GOAT, then it is reasonable to expect you to update the stats in the OP. There are other examples of threads where people do this.

P.S. - And keep in mind that in the amount of time it took you to post this response, you could have edited the OP and changed 16 to 17. ;)
