Anyone have any predictions on who will make the year end championships?

With Bartoli out it looks like the it's Stephens and Jankovic vying for the last spot. I'm gonna go with Jankovic as she's been there before and is finally playing better. Hopefully for Stephens she can motivate herself to do well in the Asian swing otherwise its a total lost opportunity.

I guess she also has the opportunity since Sharapova could withdrawal?

Well, she said her goal is to break into the top 10. She is playing 4 tournaments before the YEC if she does well it is possible. Let's see if she can make it all happen.

Little bit exciting for the last 4 qualifiers for Istanbul - have a look:

7 Kvitova, Petra 3260
8 Bartoli, Marion 3173 not playing
9 Jankovic, Jelena 3155
10 Vinci, Roberta 3150
11 Stephens, Sloane 3046
12 Kerber, Angelique 2696
13 Lisicki, Sabine 2691
14 Wozniacki, Caroline 2657
15 Halep, Simona 2615
16 Suarez Navarro, Carla 2585

We don't know if Sharapova will be ready. I personally doubt it if it's problems with her shoulder again. That means that it's interesting for top 12 because every year there are 2 substitute players. Every year we see at least one substitute player taking part. Substitute players can still take part in Sofia as it's the week after. With so few points between these players it's reallly important how they manage in the last tournaments. Yeah even Caroline can be one of the eight. If she doesn't win an international she'll problably get a wild card for Sofia. So exciting weeks ahead. The same rules for the race list as the normal rankings - 16 best tournaments where at least 8 results always have to count - 4 slams and 4 mandatory - where Beijing is the last mandatory.:)

Top 5 have qualified.

The race 6-20:
6 Errani 4050 (125)
7 Bartoli 3172 (1)
8 Kvitova 3140 (120)
9 Jankovic 3095 (60)
10 Stephens 3045 (70)
11 Vinci 3030 (120)
12 Lisicki 2690 (40)
13 Wozniacki 2656 (1)
14 Kerber 2636 (60)
15 Halep 2603 (30)
16 Suarez Navarro 2525 (60)
17 Kirilenko 2471 (1)
18 Flipkens 2381 (1)
19 Ivanovic 2272 (1)
20 Cirstea 2100 (1)

The brackets are player's 15th best results. All players must count the premier mandatory in Beijing.

Player schedules:
Errani - Tokyo, Beijing, Moscow
Kvitova - Tokyo, Beijing, Linz, Moscow
Jankovic - Tokyo, Beijing, Osaka, Moscow
Stephens - Tokyo, Beijing, Linz, Luxembourg
Vinci - Tokyo, Beijing, Moscow
Lisicki - Tokyo, Beijing, Osaka, Luxembourg
Wozniacki - Tokyo, Beijing, Luxembourg
Kerber - Tokyo, Beijing, Moscow
Halep - Tokyo, Beijing, Linz, Moscow
Suarez Navarro - Tokyo, Beijing, Linz, Moscow
Kirilenko - Seoul, Tokyo, Beijing, Moscow
Flipkens - Quebec, Tokyo, Beijing, Linz, Luxembourg
Ivanovic - Tokyo, Beijing, Linz, Moscow
Cirstea - Guangzhou, Tokyo, Beijing, Linz, Luxembourg

Errani will qualify, it's just a matter of time. A lot of the other 2 spots is going to come down to draws. Specifically who gets good draws at Tokyo and Beijing. Having said that I would fancy Kvitova and Jankovic to clinch the final 2 spots. If Sharapova doesn't play as is rumoured, then I would pick Stephens as the 3rd player to qualify.

Ozza I think you are a bit wrong this time - or I don't know what you mean with your list -here is the official rankings from 9th of September - and you can see their 16th and 17th best result in the last two numbers for every player. Wozniacki has eg. 200 points to put in place of an early loss in Tokyo. Ranking list and race list will be the same in the end of the year. If it's something else you want to point out with your list then explain what you mean please.

Just read that Maria Sharapove still hopes to be playing the YEC.She has bursistis in her shoulder.
I feel she needs to get that shoulder healed. What is the point struggling to play at the YEC.She needs to look at the Big Picture..season 2014.
Good luck Maria

WTA mislead with the race they put up. They are counting best 16 results already, but players can't possibly count their current best 16 results. They have to count Beijing whether they play or not. The race they are putting up is flawed because it looks bad if a player then goes down in points after Beijing. My list is the race if you only count the best 15 results. The brackets is the points tally they have to improve on to boost their total at non-mandatory events.

Has anyone else heard that Sloane Stephens has hired Tomas Hogstead as her new coach?

@Fashionista I haven't heard that. I'm sure it would be a good move on her part. She needs to start planning like a top 10 player.

If Sloane has any hopes of keeping her ranking at least near the top 10 she should make a goal of finishing the year top 8 and getting a number 8 seeding in Australia. With SF points to defend there she could be in for a big ranking drop there.

The big picture for her is going to look just like the end of 2013.
