In Brazil there are the "exilionistas", something like "exilenists". They self identify as someone of foreign nationality exiled in their country of birth.

That’s new. And it’s also both a form of identity politics and a repudiation of identity politics in some way, in that people are willing to set themselves distinctively apart in society - in an interesting way - rather than be considered a victim minority..

Well, I don't see folks here identifying as Rwandan. For some subtle reason the statistical improbable event of all those people identifying as American simply happened. But that is surely just a coincidence. I am pretty sure I am bound to bump into self identified Mongolians in troves.

That is the part a lot of friends of mine do not get. There is no law, policy or ideology that will escape the faith of being used in whatever way people want to use them for their personal interests. The "spirit" of it is, in most cases, completely irrelevant. What matters is the doors (or the cans of worms) that you open with it.

I think I misunderstood what these exilionistas identify as. They’re Brazilian but they identify as exiles within their own country?

Exactly that. They identify as, for example, an American who is in Brazil against their will.

I struggled a bit to put it in English in the previous message.

Even though they’re not American? Are they claiming to be in the wrong body? Like, “I identify as an American, bigot?”
