Sousa takes out Anderson 7/5 7/5. Zverev a break up on Simon in the opener 4/2. It's these sort of matches that Sascha needs to start winning if he's going to lay heavy markers down.

yay. that's got to be the best win of zed's career, down a break in the 3rd to mr Idon'tmindrunningalldayandpushing simon.

zed has hardly any points to defend for months (after last years challenger rank pts dropped off last Monday), that's the 2nd long match he has won this week, nearly 3hrs today and a bit less in 1st rd..

thiem machine and zed could meet in the final if stuff goes the right way.

Big win for Sascha. As said in earlier post, it's matches like these that he's going to need to start winning regularly to continue his rapid progression.

Mannarino's the weakest link in that quartet. I saw the end of Thiem/Seppi today. Dominic is looking very solid, from what I saw. Sousa is not completely reliable, and "Zed" (as JLLB calls him) is very ambitious. I think we might just get the GenNext battle in the final. Here's hoping.

Thiem will probably be in the final and I wouldn't mind seeing either Sousa or Zverev there as well.

And so it will be: Thiem manhandled Mannarino, and Zverev beat Sousa in 3, so we get the GenNext final. (Also, these guys could meet again next week in the 3rd round of RG.)

I'd expect Thiem to win this, but Zverev is improving in a hurry.. he actually pushed Thiem closer in Munich than expected.

I'd also pick Thiem, but I think it will be a fight. (And now I have extra reason to hope for a long one. ;) )

Thiem wins as I expected: 6-4, 3-6, 6-0.

Great job in defending his first title.
