I guess Zverev still has a lot to learn about mental toughness.

Thiem wins his second Nice title:
6-4, 3-6, 6-0 with Zverev.

:clap

How did he eat the Bagel. Was he out of energy and thus needed one? :puzzled
I could not watch, unfortunately. My usual source, livescorehunter did not have any links available.

I don't think we got it here in the States either! For them to even make the final, it shows me something! Being the top seeds at a tourney can be tough and they justified their positions! So many are upset under the weight of expectations! :p :clap :)

Why is everyone expecting top notch performance from Sasha Zverev?
He has just turned 19 and let's be realistic a little, he is yet to be a top 40 player.
Patience folks, he will develop just nicely into a great player, but it till take a few years on tour.

Actually he won multiple close matches in Nice and that shows mental toughness. Obviously, he does not have the experience, but that is understandable.

I like Zverev and I agree with Herios, he is still 19 years old and around #40, so we must gauge our expectations. And I hear you GSM, if you are saying he won close matches, fine, good for him.

But we all saw what happened in his match with Nadal after the match point, and now losing 6x0 in third, in a final, shows something, so yes, I still think he could get better in that department. And, as Herios said above, that is only natural.

Here is my thing I am ok with anyone losing in three sets, but a bagel, I am not so sure he should have eaten that. Granted he had a three setter for a semi, so he was probably running on empty at that point.

Zevrev has won against Belluci, Steven Johnson, Simon, Grigor, Popsicle, Goffin and Cilic this year. All of these are upsets. He is 19 years old and is not yet in top 40 rankings, he is already pulling way beyond his weight. Give this boy time to grow, by leaving him alone. Neither unjustly criticize him, Nor take him to a pedestal and destroy him.

Djokovic was bageled last week by Bellucci so we can cut Zverev some slack. It's disappointing for anyone to be bageled but it happens.

C´mon boys, nobody (as far as I see) is giving him a hard time here (not even putting him in a pedestal). Observations about areas were a player can improve are the one of the basic topics of discussion on a tennis forum. I actually kind of root for Zverev, and in general I root against the younger players... But I concede I have not watched him play that much, and was speculating more than anything else. From the little I saw, and from results, it seemed to me that way. The Nadal match instantly reminded me a match were Nalbandian had 5 match points against the same spaniard and lost 6x0 in the third...

And, yes, he is punching above his weight, that´s why he´s been steadily climbing in the rankings. And exactly because of it people now have expectations about him (even Federer expected to lose to him in straights), so yes, at every bad result we will see people complaining. But I guess most people here are wise enough to know that, with 19, time is on his side. Hell, I even think a guy 27 has still a lot of time...
