officially his 14 is more significant than Sampras's 14, because he has the whole set and in their respective best slam, he makes an incredible history of 9 RG as compared to Pete's 7 Wimbledon (which Fed tied which makes it not unique). He has more breadth and depth in GS performance overall.

personally I like more of a spread. But there's no doubt his resume is the stronger. I'm not sure what significant record Sampras still has other than the consecutive year end number 1s, which I've personally never thought much of (we've had that discussion before on another chat :) ) I have far more respect for his second serve being the all time best in class:blush:

I personally agree with the majority that Rafa's overall record, in slams and big non-major events, seems more significant than Sampras'. Even so, I think Pete is well ahead of Nadal on grass and hard courts, whilst far, far behind Rafa in terms of clay prowess.

Rafa actually has better spread, since he's got the whole set of majors.

^ What he said. I'm not even sure Sampras would have swapped one of his Wimbledons for a Garros title for similar reasons.

You serious Clark?

I don't think there's any question he would. Whether he'd admit it publically might be another story.

You don't think Lefty would trade a Green Jacket for a US Open title?

The lephty already has two US Open titles, and I hear that he REALLY likes to golph, so much that it darn near ruined his tennis career a year or two ago. So, I wonder iph he'd trade one of his US Opens phor a Green Jacket.
