Novak has been with Jelena for some years now. She runs his foundation. Like Roger and Mirka, or Nadal and Maria Francisca, or Andy and Kim…I don't see how one day in a tux would change their lives.
How homophobic of you to say this. Isn't marriage do splendid that we want the inhumanely repressed gay populations of the world to be able to marry???? It has to mean so much more than just one day in a tux if we want all of those fabulous treasures of humanity to be able to marry.
I guarantee that if Michael Sam married Jason Collins, both of their careers would take off to new heights. They would both be inspired and invigorated by having the opportunity to live their lives openly, and not in the shadows or the closet. Big ol Mike Sam would want to sack those QB's more than ever!
Marriage would be about so much more for them than just one day in a tux. Please show more reverence for the cause of gay people. Thank you.
Marriage equality!
I think my post about Novak and Jelena was misunderstood to explain my view of marriage in general. I was speaking specifically about those two people who live in a long-term, committed relationship. I think it's past 6 years for them. Similar to Mirka and Roger, who were entwined in life and business for even maybe 8 years by the time they got married. Roger didn't miss a beat. If you compare that to someone like Agassi romancing and marrying Brooke Shields, well, yes I can see that would be a bigger change and more disruptive. But long-term couples, (and I would include Andy and Kim, Rafa and Maria Francisca,) have already navigated and negotiated a lot of things, including but not exclusive to what is specific to the peripatetic lifestyle of a tennis player.
Otherwise, I think everyone should be free to choose to marry. And if you do it earlier rather than later in a relationship, it certainly would change everything.
And I thought your example of me marrying ricardo was HILARIOUS! My career would be great, but ricardo's, sadly, would sink like a stone. I'd take his legs out. :laydownlaughing
Anyway, Kieran is right…he's a sexist. You probably have never read our arguments on any thread that discusses male v. female athletes, if you don't think so. That's ok, so is HY, when it comes to stuff like that. I run a sports discussion website. I expect there'll be a few.
