I can see how that sounds weird, but it really is not. Most South American countries have the same tradition. You put on a different color for whatever you are hoping for, like yellow for good luck, red for love, etc,,,It is just something you do.
...and no, keeping them on for a year is not going to bring you any love luck or whatever :wow:
