I have zero issue with what Federer said, but in the interest of fairness and lack of double standards, let's all talk about what an excuse making embarrassment he is...

After all, that's what we do around here right?

Not sure that is true. Nobody, I know disputes Federer had/has back problems or that Rafa has knee problems or that Rafa had a clear back problem during the AO final...

Eh... Come on. People questioned Nadal's 7-months layoff. It is absolutely true. He was crucified for talking about the back injury after the Wawrinka match in another thread not so long ago. I bring this up because there was a 5 day stretch where the forums here were unbearable and all everyone talked about was Nadal's excuse-making. I just think Federer should receive the same courtesy. It's only fair, right?

I will say that I think Nadal is an excuse maker, but sometimes they are valid. Sometimes we are too critical too soon, then it turns out nadal wasn't just making an excuse. All of the players have stereotypes that they to some degree fulfill. Nadal is an excusemaker and has a bit of a victim complex. Fed is full of himself. Novak is a bit bombastic, wants to be liked a bit too much, and has overzealous parents. Andy is a baby.

Federer doesn't seem to constantly qualify his losses, so people give him the benefit of the doubt, when he does. It makes sense.

Each player has their own cross to bare. ;)

Exactly.

There are a lot of false narratives about players, and repeating them often enough leads some people to believe they're true...

Nadal IS an excuse maker. I never disputed that. I get tired hearing about his injuries, even though I don't believe they're made up. However, a 7 months injury layoff, or the injury that he sustained at the AO are different, since these are kind of obvious.

Regardless, my whole point is about double standards:

If Front, GSM, DarthFed, and others will tear Nadal to shreds when he brings up injuries from a year ago, here, now you get the chance to do the same for Fed...

PS: In case nobody realized this yet, this thread is tongue in cheek. It's just meant to highlight the double standards, which it will.

Good point BS, even if its tongue and cheek, Roger is the the Beloved, the admired, his Highness. Rafa is the despised, the unwelcome intruder or the unholy one. Rafa, just get number 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 and let the Fed fans have their beloved champion.

My thread is a joke. Roger's laundry list of excuses aren't.

haha! Ok. But let's get it straight.. Rafa's (and I include his camp in this) accomplishments as an excuse maker in comparison to Fed is a gap as wide as Rafa's ranking compared to... Darcis :D

Keep saying it, brother. ;)

Every injury Roger has, we hear about it, and how it's impacted his chances.

Every injury Rafa has, we hear about it, and how it's impacted his chances.

You know the media ask, and they answer, right?

Did Roger really complain last year when he was injured or is he mostly attributing his recent success to being healthy? These are two different things. I'm not saying Roger is the most stoic player in history with respect to injuries, but Rafa is definitely in a league of his own.

I especially love when Rafa complains of an ailment, like falling off a chair in a hotel room or whatever, and then proceeds to dust someone in straights.

So by attributing his current success to being healthy, is that not the same as saying that last season he was..?

The only issue worth noting is that besides the AO match against Stan, Nadal has never visibly appeared anywhere near as rigid or stiff looking as Fed was last year and besides the AO final this year I can't say I recall Nadal not attempting to run down balls that were within his reach. The same could not be said for Fed in Indian Wells last year or some of the clay events he should never have played last summer.

I fully acknowledge Nadal was hampered from 2-0 in the 2nd set at this year's AO but besides that I can't say I've noticed any major physical ailments hampering him as much as Fed when he spewed up shankfests and visibly didn't/couldn't run down balls especially to his FH side in quite a few matches at times last year. That therefore is no excuse but simply a clear synopsis of what any observation of his matches last year where his movement was compromised would show you.

My point was that we heard very few complaints from Roger when he was actually injured. Most of the recent talk has come in response to questions about his recent mini-resurgence. Basically he's saying that he's playing better than last year because he's healthier than last year. I think that's different from, for instance, cluing the world in every time you visit a doctor in Mallorca, and then having that doctor speak to the press.

In fairness, Rafa can't win in this one. He gets injured. He's asked about it - and as Broken said, people still don't believe he was injured in the first place. Usually these things fall down on whether or not you like the chap...
