Bad News.

But then I actually read the article and not just the headline and it isn't so clear. Read on.

I really hope not. He should just withdraw from all tournaments now up until the WTF. Skip Paris and whatever else is on his schedule and focus on arguably the biggest non-Grand Slam tennis event of the year.

TsarMatt, I don't think skipping the other tournaments will help. He doesn't have a physical, mechanical injury that needs to be rested - he has appendicitis that needs to be operated on. So it isn't like he can have a "rested appendix!" ;) I think it is just unlucky timing - if this was a month ago he could have had the operation then and then conceivably be ready for the WTF.

Do it now and then he could play in London. It is not going to get better in all likelihood. You want to do it well in advance of the off season and the AO in January.

That is the current up to date news I have read regarding Rafa.He will play Basel, then his team and his personal doctor Cotorro will re-evaluate his inflamed appendix.Rafa has also signed up to play at the expo at Abu Dhabi which begins on New Years Day.
My thoughts are Just Do It Rafa Now.

This would be my take. He hasn't won the WTF under the best circumstances. He should make sure he is healed up well before the AO, and if he recovers in time for the WTF, all the better.

For the moment he's out of Bercy and could undergo a surgery just after Basel ???

It would have been so much better knowing Rafa was not a week post-op--the WTF would be a non-issue and he does not need Basel or Bercy. I don't get why they went through this after the early exit at Shanghai.

I believe it's been confirmed in Rafa's presser

He's better off out of this year, already, it's been one to forget, apart from the French Open. Back, wrist, appendix. At least the knees were fine. :cover

Let's hope he rests, gets well and comes back next year to have a great season...

In his post-match presser, Rafa said he needs time off to recover from appendix surgery AND his back---which I hadn't heard before was still a problem. I believe he'll still have some good moments, but the Rafa we knew (as recently as 2013) has left us.

What's next...Ebola? Mono? Both at the same time? I'm with you: I hope he rests, gets well, and comes back next year...But, I hope he loses every match he plays. Also...Have the knees EVER been phine?

He'll be fine.

Also the serve has pretty much stunk all year (with the exception of the AO, where it looked really good). Not implying anything since that's forbidden around here, but it's interesting in light of the comments about the back.

Gutted I won't see Rafa at the WTF. Andy had better make it. If not, it will just be the icing on a very expensive, lousy cake.

Are you going there in person?

Yes. I can't say I'm too excited by the line-up so far. As a tennis fan it's great to see Djokovic and Federer but I've been lucky enough to have seen them both quite a few times. The trip was really all about seeing Andy and Rafa.

Well, at this time it looks like all the hard work is paying off and Andy almost looks like
a shoe in (even without Rafa's exit). Have good time at O2. Also, according to the bookies
Andy is 3rd in line to win the WTF.
