lol! Fucs, Kokk, Tits... surely there's one more to make a nice doubles match?
This is not an easy task. Found a swiss guy named Husler 276 in live ranking. Appears to be a part of a new gen. He should join the Tits side.

I didn't start it, but I had to take the task on. All in good fun! :)

Congratulations to all the No1e fans on his title in Madrid. We have been waiting to see Novak back in form since February.

Beating El Greco, No1e achieved following:

  1. Equalised head to head with Tsitsipas
  2. Won his 74th ATP tour title

  3. Won record 33rd masters title equal to Nadal (52nd big title, 2 less than Fed)

  4. His 200th top 10 win (so he is now only 18 such wins behind Fed's record 218)

  5. Widened the points gap with #2 Nadal to 4170

  6. Most importantly, came back to his form finally
He also won the title playing only 8 sets even though he had to play the two best players of today, Thiem and Tsitsipas. Some people mentioned how he didn't play his traditional rivals, but they don't seem the best opposition to No1e these days, instead he beat the two guys who beat Federer and Nadal.

Moving forward, this must be huge reassurance for Novak and those who support him. I don't say I now expect him to win RG, but it certainly looks more likely than it looked before this tournament. It is still unlikely, because ever since slams are how we know them today and it must be last 40 years or more, a streak of 4 in a row has been won only once.

In the end, I'd like to thank the tournament organisers for pampering No1e who often gets treated differently & to spectators in Madrid who didn't seem disappointed at all despite No1e wining the whole thing.

Ok... so I watched the highlights of the Tsitsipas vs Nadal match. Folks we have got to stop talking about Zverev. Tsitsipas is going to be the first one. I don't consider Thiem to be part of the group because of age. For the record I think Dominic is ready right now to lift a slam, for me what I saw with Tsitsipas in that match was an absolute disrespect of Rafa. This is the first time he faces him on clay after getting blown out by him at the AO? That was seriously impressive. I think he is going to be a major major problem for Rafa on any surface. What I loved was the hustle, the will, the belief in the primacy of his game. So good to see. I have my guy when my guy hangs up his racquet :)

Good post. Serious stones for "Tsi" to come back and win this one from Ralf. He didn't have much left to do anything against Djokovic in the final, but the kid has the gumption to win the big matches.

I really like Tsitsipas. I couldn't watch the 3rd set of the SF v. Rafa nor all of the F today, but Annacone did say that Stefanos might not have enough to beat Rafa in a long 3, then Djokovic the next day. But he's coming along quickly.

Tsitsipas and thiem are two best players of today? Last time i checked, nole, nadal and federer are 1-2-3. Thiem and tsitsi are on a good streak... but not best players today.

Djokovic is probably favourite to win french with nadal’s current form.. the last time nadal lost at roland was in 2015, when he failed to win a masters on clay during clay court run. He better win rome or he will enter french in disarray, with opponents smelling blood.

Hopefully nadal wins Rome, i’d like him to be in good form so we get high quality..

Happy aren’t ya?

Nadal was humiliated by fognini and bullied
By thiem. Tsitsipas played well but i’m not that impressed with his game yet, but he’s only 20. Nadal has looked vulnerable, his shots lacking depth and pace. Tsitsi looked helpless vs djokovic today.. maybe he was tired but had little game to even make novak uncomfortable.

Come on, Tsitsi finished his SF very late. Further Novak had only played six sets before the final. Finally, it is tough to follow up one big win with another in a span of 24 hours for a 20 year old guy. Give him a break.

It was a good win for sure but i was surprised how novak dominated him. To be honest, it wasn’t that he lost, it’s how he lost. I agree that for being only 20, facing djokovic after beating nadal night before was a tough proposition. What struck me was how tsitsi looked weaponless against djokovic, i expected tsitsi to hurt djkkovic but make many UFEs but it wasn’t that, it looked like he lacked weapons.. it was strange. He looked defensive and lost but it could’ve been inexperience, nerves and fatigue.

It worked out for all concerned! Tsitsipas defeated #2 Nadal & #3 Zverev while Thiem eliminated #4 Federer! It worked out that Nole as the last of the Big 3 to show they're not totally done yet! It had been a while since he added to his Masters' total! It was about time! Nadal needs Rome or he'll go into Paris naked like 2015! He was lucky only Djokovic was the one who eliminated him in the QF other than some lower ranked player that year! :nono:    :ptennis:

Given what Novak has offered this week, and since the AO, I think it was a lot of the kid being tired, emotionally and physically. I'm not sure if anyone here watched Thiem v Djokovic, but the better player in that match was Thiem, throughout most of it. Djokovic didn't so much "win" Madrid as survive it.

Completely agreed with this.
Thiem looked much better than Djokovic off the ground. His serve-return combo(aided by the Madrid conditions) helped him clutch that win.I don't think he can replicate that in Paris

I disagree.. thiem was the aggesor but made more UFEs. Djokovic was hitting ball cleanly, with depth and accuracy.. it made life difficult for thiem. It was evenly matched.. i did not see what you saw.

Yeah Thiem made more errors because Djokovic was able to rush him more on this faster clay. Also Djokovics serve was tough to return for Thiem. IMO he won't be able to rely on this at Paris

stefanos played doubles, no wonder he was a bit tired. needs less of that now he is winning.
