I must say Madrid is a strange combined tournament where the WTA already has a semi final set before some ATP players have even completed their first match?
I think the biggest difference is the men won't get any days off. Whoever starts today has to play daily to be in the final on Sun. The women started last week so they'll get at least 2 days off.

Women do get the advantage there, still why cant they both start at the same time?

I think it comes down to big names on main courts and TV time. If they started at the same time, some top players will get relegated to outside courts. I just don't think they're set up like IW or Rome to handle that load. Besides by staggering the women first, they can showcase the women early with all of their matches on the 2 main courts.

Agree with your thoughts, having been to Rome tournament many times over the years,it can handle both the men and women starting at the same time. Also the women do get to have their matches on the 2 main courts in Madrid

Jill Teichmann advances to her 3rd WTA s/final and her first on clay in Madrid defeating Kalinina 63 64 and will face either Jess Pegula or Sara Sorribes for a spot in her 2nd WTA 1000 final ( Cinncy 2021)

Jess Pegula d S.Sorribes Tormo 64 62....a really solid performance from Jess, Sara is a very tricky player, especially on clay,
This is Jessica's 3rd s/final at 1000 level in less than a year.

Pegula can win this thing, she is consistent and her game has very few errors
She can. But she will face a stern test against Ons if she can get past Jill. Ons is acting like she will not be denied this week.

This is Totally Unfair that Jess and Jil have to play their s/final at this time of night. As Kskate said they could have put this match on a court near the main court in Madrid.....Feli Get Your Act Together .....this is a shared tournament!
BTW Jess and Coco are scheduled to play a ladies doubles QFs match after this one? Honestly this is just laughable

Jessica wins the 1st set 63 over Jil.....traded breaks in the 1st set, too many UFE cost Jil and this is the first set of tennis she has lost en-route to the s/final.Jessica's bhand has been doing a lot of damage as well.

3 UFE from Jess including a DF and she gives up her lead in the 2nd set, looked tight in that service game and also her body language
It must be catching.......a poor service game from Jill and she is broken and Jess will serve for the match 5-4
