Here is a summary of Daniil Medvedev’s interview with the Tennis Channel following his victory:

  • Match Performance: Medvedev described his win as a strong mental performance, noting that he only lost one serve throughout the entire match. He admitted his level dropped slightly at the end of the second set against Fabio Fognini, but he regained control with exceptional serving in the third set.

  • Recovery from Monte Carlo: He opened up about the difficult period following a loss in Monte Carlo, describing the first few weeks as tough where he was unhappy with every practice shot. He credited his return to form to day-by-day work that eventually allowed him to play better in the actual match than in practice.

  • Serving Strategy: When discussing his flow state, Medvedev explained that he focuses on placement (wide, T, or body) and aiming for aces without trying to hit the line precisely, preferring to aim slightly inside so that touching the line results in a winner.

  • Madrid vs. Other Clay Courts: While he has reached the quarterfinals in Madrid the last two years, he expressed a preference for slower clay courts like Rome or Roland Garros over the high altitude in Madrid. He believes that if he serves well in Madrid, he has a real chance to go deep in the tournament.

  • Carlos Alcaraz’s Withdrawal: Medvedev noted that Alcaraz’s withdrawal from Roland Garros was a shock to the locker room. He observed that the pressure to beat both Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner is now solely on beating Sinner, which increases pressure on the rest of the field.

  • Watch Collecting: On the topic of watches, Medvedev downplayed his involvement in the design process. While he enjoys visiting the brand’s facilities in Switzerland, he prefers to stay out of the creative decisions, stating he would only offer a color suggestion if asked and letting the experts handle the rest.

The battle of the 19 year olds tomorrow Fonseca and Jodar, playing each other for the first time in R3
Both Fonseca and Jodar are very close to securing a seeded position for Roland Garros
Currently ranked No 31, Fonseca is a virtual lock in to be seeded at RG, partly because he has very few points to defend between now and RG
Jodar, following his maiden ATP title in Marrakech, SF run in Barcelone has reached a career high of No 42. His win over de Minaur moved him to a virtual No 36, placing him just 3 spots from a guaranteed seed.'
Due to confirmed withdrawals ( incl Alcaraz) making it highly probable both players will achieve this goal

This is getting 'Scary"
Tsitsipas has won back to back matches in Madrid! defeating Bublik (8) 62 75, his first Top 20 win on clay since the Paris Olympics
I don’t think he won back to back matches since the seventies. I see his dad is still in the box. Some people never learn..

This chap is hard to figger. He’s discussing Carlos withdrawal and segues to cry about the pressure of playing for big titles then he’s joking about making fat gold watches for the Monte Carlo mob. Tough life!

Daddy is his ride or die. It appears they'll go down together. His ship has sailed anyway. Even if he somehow climbs back into the top 20 he's not winning anything substantial.

Yeah, and though he’s more successful that 99.9999999% of people, there’s the whiff of brewers droop about the fella…

Fonzie vs. Jodar could be a glimpse into the future. Of course given that these guys are just three and a half years younger than Alcaraz, five younger than Sinner, they're going to have to get through still-prime years of those two, at least for half a decade or more to come. But right now they do seem to be best bets to reach an elite level of play, among those younger than Alcaraz (with Fils, Tien, and Mensik not too far behind). Maybe I'm buying too much on Jodar, but the kid has been very impressive. Maybe these two end up being "mere" lesser or near greats, or just very good players, and a far cry from Sincaraz, but at the least they should make things interest.

An impressive stat of Jodar, March 2025 he was rankled No 911 in the world, with his defeat of de Minaur his ranking is No 36 a few spots short of being seeded at RG, also Fonseca should also be seeded at RG as he has very few points to defend before RG

Great atmosphere in the 'Magic Box' with fans of Fonseca and Jodar cheering loudly
Jodar will serve to force a TB in the 1st set, now much separates Fonseca and Jodar at present
One thing I have noticed is that Jodar at times 'falls off the ball' trying to make contact with the ball
6 games all TB it is for the 1st set
Ridiculous amount of talent in this match
Jodar wins the 1st set 76(4)

Yes, we are dysfunctional at times just like any typical family but its all about trying to continue to enjoy this LIFE... Funny thing I'm on one of Rafa's IG account trying to guilt trip him to give it another two years but i know its a pipe's dream..jajajaja

Might be a good time to go play the Powerball and Mega million lotteries... we know the curse of Papa Pas is gonna kick in and sidetrack Stefanos from making it as a competitor for championship Sunday..

If you succeed we’ll all be in your debt! Rafa is probably the most missed player in history. I doubt that even those of us who love him can appreciate just how great he was. I think he was so classy, the ultimate gentleman player!

Rafa's body should be at least 90 healthy besides his cronic foot problems.. I had a dream last week that he came back won Wimby and I was looking forward to the US Open for number #24.. My thoughts are Rafa has the rest of his life to be retired.. Pretty Mary had given him to lovely kids and its time for him to fulfil his destiny.. Two years is all I ask!

Well the near great, Fonseca just destroyed his racket like a real champ after having his serve broken in the 3rd set! IDK why he'd go ape like that after taking the 2nd set? I missed his comeback! Now he's down a break in the 3rd 0-3 to Jodar! WHO? :astonished-face::yawningface::fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth: - UPDATE: It's over! ;-)

Jodar leads 5-0 3rd set, he reset his game in the 3rd set and broke Fonseca early and really hasnt looked back
One thing I can say for certain Fonseca can do a good racquet smash,:) when he was broken early in the 3rd set after being up in his service game.
I feel the pressure of this match has been on Fonseca as he is the 'more established player of the two'
As 1pm approaches in Madrid, Jodar will serve for the match at 5-1
Jodar's rise continues he defeats Fonseca 76(4) 46 62, first round of 16 in a Masters 1000 for Jodar
As far as I am concerned,, both great talents and I am certain we will see these 2 players battle it out against one another in the future

Alexander Blockx closing in on his first career Top Ten win, leading FAA 76(3) 4-1, FAA had 17 UFE in the 1st set, didnt really address his UFE in the 2nd set.
Blockx looks like a young Milos Raonic to me :)
Well done Blockx, he gets his first career Top Ten win defeating FAA (3) 76(3) 63!
Back to back Masters R16
