The draw must be coming out tomorrow I'd think. Any word on if Djokovic is for sure playing?

I think it will probably come out Friday. Main draw play starts 4 May. No word that Djokovic isn't playing, so far as I can find.

Draws are coming out usually on Fridays or Saturdays, exception being IW and Miami only, because the events starts mid week.

I hope Djokovic skips this event. Probably overcautious, but JMDP-scenario sucks. In the grander scheme of things, it's only Rome and Paris that really matter in any event.

I was mixed up before. BB is including the qualifiers in the dates, I should have figured the main tournament wouldn't start in the middle of the week.

I agree and I actually don't think it's overcautious. I really don't see the point in risking further injury and jeopardizing a chance at the career grand slam. It just doesn't make sense.

I can't wait to see Murray back in action. It's been a long time.

Yeah, the real clay season is about to kick off now. Monte Carlo's a great tournament but not being mandatory means it's not as high profile in terms of players attending. Looking forward to seeing all the top players in action and good to see Murray back and interested to see how he does on clay. Rome is a better indicator though 'cos what we have in Madrid is clard and not real clay. No doubt Murray will announce his new coach soon too.

Also hope Djokovic skips Madrid. He has practically no points to defend here so the only reasons he'd play here would be greed for points and downright poor judgement imo . Better to hold off till Rome if he wants to be serious about his chances at RG.

If I were to guess one more motivation for Djokovic to play Madrid, it would be that he sees Nadal vulnerable, and he's got a better chance than anyone to snag him, and go into RG with momentum. That said, I'm still with those that think Djokovic is risking a lot to play Madrid. I think the wiser move is to rest the wrist and play Rome.

The last news from Nole to be found is that he accepted Rafa's invitation to participate at the Mutual Open Charity Day on May 2 in Madrid. Invitation declined for example by Azarenka due to injury.
So I guess, if he is there and his wrist will not bother him he will try to play.

I know Tomic played in the qualifying rounds. Any word if he'll be in the draw?

I disagree. Madrid doesn't prepare you for RG at all. Altitude and surface make that the conditions are very different. If he would skip Rome he would actually be hurting his preparation, since conditions are similar and there is time to rest afterwards. Plus: Rome is infinitely more prestigious than Madrid.

On top of that: he needs to rest his wrist now, not make it worse and then take rest.

The players said the surface was more closer to Roland Garros after they changed it. Tiriac ensured the surface used was the same after the blue clay fiasco. In contrast Rome is faster than Roland Garros. He will be better prepared in Madrid as a result because the surface is similar.

Prestige is there in Rome but its pointless to rest and play and get injured before RG. Instead better to play and rest for RG :D

Sure, there is a mathematical possiblity (thanks to Rafa's couple of early losses in
succession); However, I do think realistically speaking #1 will not changes hands
before the end of RG.

^Well , a lot happened in the last month that was not "realistic" . If similar stuff happened and Nole won this thing, he is numero uno again. I am still not willing to bet against Rafa on clay though. I think this is where he picks it up and makes his run towards RG.
