which famous producer, writer, director and actor turned this up -- he later explained he wanted to show how gullible americans can be about 'alien threats" ...and was criticized for it...in fact he never again got quite more ''work" to do movies unless he himself found financing...but was yet to create was is sometimes considered the ''greatest american movie" ever made -- hint answer: ''rosebud".

HAHA--- MOXIE -- i put them in my response -- inside your answers...in the ''quote" of your post --

you got them all correct brilliantly -- except just a very few additions i had to make, haha.

great stuff!!

but i have to figure out how to be more organized. i should put numbering or bulletting lile you did. -- it's too dis-organized the way i supplied the other answers. lol.

==========================

the guy that supplied the voice for Brazzi in south pacific --- EZIO PINZA - also an italian like brazzi - maybe that's how they came up with the idea -- pinza was just a recently retired opera bass-baritone who was considered the greaetest of his time - and singing at the NYC MET - and he wanted to stay busy by singing lighter music -- so that's how he became the voice in the film -

because in the ORIGINAL STATE PLAY in broadway -- HE created the ROLE opposite MARY MARTIN...with the real voice of an opera singer..in NYC at that time - EVERYONE knew who PINZA was - EVERYONE. so tht was a huge huge ticket seller - more even than mary martin to open South Pacific.

elizabeth taylor /richard's other movie was TAMING OF THE SHREW -- about KATE the oldest daughter of a rich man looking to WED her away as tradition so the other daughters can also be wed -- but SHE was a SHREW that 'hated men' - and no suitor could ''tame her" - until richard burton's character came and ''disciplined" her and brought out the 'loving woman" in her. lol.

then we have AMPARO MUNOZ -- the spanish MISS universe.

STANISLAW LEM was the polish author of SOLARIS - one of the first true modern science fiction genre novels..

and don't forget LUCILLE BALL -- truly a barrier breaker that woman - and her husband - first of all
WHO EVER HEARD on national US tv of their times a WHITE ANGLO - and woman - marrying a CUBANO ? A LATINO? ON NATIONAL media?
AND her using comedy as a way to push women's rights to the forefront: equal opportunity in JOBS (notice how she always tried to SCHEME to work in his band or shows, or go out and land a job just like the guys? ) or SHOWING A PREGNANT woman on NATIONAL TV? let alone pushing it to the delivery itself? who-ever heard such a thing? - THAT made FASHION industry think hard about pregnant women -- being ''stylish"...no more ''hide the figure" ..

then there's GINA LOLLOBRIGIDA - the italian actress --
and finally FLASH GORDON --

-- WHEN or if others give their own -- of coruse it's also from different sets of knowledge -- so i'm sure i'm gonna FLUNK with my answers - lol.

It is. I made a mistake too. I said there were 5 but there are actually 6. I forgot about State Fair. How can I forget about my 2nd favourite musical?

I'm glad you enjoyed. I've been exploring the site & found some old threads that I thought had potential but have been given up on though some people were interested in them or I thought people may be interested in them so decided to try to bring new life to them especially as a few people have commented on how quiet it is on here now but I acknowledge the fact people have been busy & enjoy talking about many things. I just wanted to try to liven things up a bit. I thought of a few questions (I actually had more in mind but kept it to 20). I didn't want to take over but thought it might be fun. I know I seem to have given up on some of mine but am short of ideas for them & have been busy. I believe you. Anyway, that's enough of the ramble. It's the answers you want so here goes.

1. The late, great American mathematician, John Nash.
2. Correct answer
3. Correct
4. You were right in that he was called George & was our Queen's Father but he was George VI.
5. Right answer
6. Right
7. High Society & Holiday Inn
8. Correct answer
9. Correct
10. Right answer
11. Right
12. Correct answer
13. You got 5 right. When I wrote the question I made a mistake too. I forgot about State Fair. The answers are Carousel, Oklahoma, South Pacific, State Fair, The King & I & The Sound of Music.
14. Porridge the movie.
15. Douglas Bader
16. Correct
17. Definitely. I've got horses on the brain that much I'm amazed there's room for anything else. Lol.
18. Right answer
19. Right
20. Correct answer. I would have also accepted Killer Whale or whale.

You got 19/25 because I'm given points for each correct answer when it comes to the questions with more than 1 answer like the White Xmas & Rodger's & Hammerstein one.

I want to say dolphin

thought I would be better at this...
1. You were right in that Russell Crowe played him. He was the late, great American Mathematician, John Nash.
2. Schizophrenia
3. The late, great Stephen Hawking
4. Nearly there. George VI.
5. They were about Toulouse Lautrec. If you ever get the chance to see any, choose the old 1 as the new 1 has no structure & it makes no sense how it's strung together. It keeps going from 1 scene to the other without you getting much grasp of what's happening other than singing, dancing, drinking absinthe & someone's corset causing problems. The songs are good though.
6. It means Red Windmill but I'll accept Red Mill.
7. High Society & Holiday Inn
8. I was going to give a clue to this 1 but thought I'd give it away. My clue was that she later became a princess by a prince marrying her. It was Grace Kelly.
9. Correct answer
10. Correct
11. I hate that musical as most of the actors & actresses can't sing but I sometimes have to watch it at my Sister's. I end up singing to drown out the bad singing. Anyway, the answer is ABBA
12. Right answer
13. I'm very sorry. I just came up with the 1st 20 questions that popped into my head & I like comedies, musicals, animal films & films based on true stories & books best but everyone has different tastes. I actually made a mistake when I wrote that question. I forgot about State Fair so there are 6 films & not 5 like I said. The answers are Carousel, Oklahoma, South Pacific, State Fair, The King & I & The Sound of Music.
14. Porridge the movie.
15. Douglas Bader
16. Right
17. Correct answer
18. Correct
19. Queen Victoria
20. Orca, Killer Whale or Whale.

Never mind, it's just for fun. Everyone likes something different. I guess if you decided to write a quiz I wouldn't do too well on it because everyone has different hobbies, interests & tastes which influence their different skills, talents & knowledge bases & vice versa. Everyone is unique & that's a good thing. From your responses I guess you're going to watch a beautiful mind & Porridge the movie again when you get the chance. Why not? They're brilliant films.

State Fair? I don't think I've ever even seen it, and I grew up on the 4 O'Clock Movie. Anyway, that was fun. Thanks for reviving this thread. I'll try to work one up over the weekend. I might sneak in a horse question, but I can promise that your royals are unlikely to feature. I once played The Hat Game with 3 English friends. Someone threw in Ethelred the Unready, which I thought was really mean on the American in the room. Well, I know who he is now, anyway. Drinking game as history lesson.

I've been very nice to you & found you the link to the full version of State Fair. I hope it works for you. I've never heard of that movie. I'm glad you had fun. You're welcome. I'm looking forward to it. There are only really 6 films I've watched about our royals. I just came up with the questions spontaneously. That 1 was really hard on you because we never really get taught about him now. We only learn about him if we want to read up on our history ourselves mainly by reading old books. That sounds fun, though. You get your stimulation on the 1 hand then kill a few brain cells with alcohol on the other. Lol.

I guess it's time for Federberg to get his own back on me & me to say "Congratulations Moxie!" & crown you the Queen of film. I haven't seen most of these & have no idea at all. You gave me more ideas for questions though & I already had some but didn't want to ask more than 20 questions at a time so it was hit & miss which ones I asked.

I only know #3 because I read the book "Rebecca" by Daphne Du Maurier & think the film has the same name so I'm saying 3 is Rebecca.
4. Star Wars
I'll guess at Lady Chatterley's Lover for 9.
11. The Horse whisperer?
12. The Night of the living dead?

Thank you very much for taking the time out to write this thoughtful quiz. I look forward to seeing your answers.

I'll try to do a not so hard one. Shoot, I didn't think of The Horse Whisperer! No, it was The Black Stallion. I made the question too esoteric, I guess. I am a movie trivia nerd, I'll admit that. Plus, I work in the industry.
#3, 4 & 12 are correct.

Here's another hint for #2: The penultimate line of this very classic film is "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."
#5 is always at or near the top of all lists of greatest films of all time.

I'll see if Federberg gives in a try, or anyone else, then I'll give you the rest of the answers.

Everyone likes something different so what's hard for 1 isn't always hard for others. Until you said, I didn't think I was inconsiderate asking about films about British royalty because during part of the last 2 years at school I had to learn about the American West (Native Americans, Mountain men, Cowboys & homesteaders & the like) so thought you might have learnt some British history. Mind you, the King's speech talks about Edward VIII abdicating because he wanted to & later did marry the American divorcee, Wallace Simpson. I saw that film but prefer the horse whisperer. Thank you very much. You're very kind thinking of a horse film question for me. I can only think of 3 films about horses. You are very good at film quizzes. I'll see if I can add a twist to my next 1 then. Wow! You've got a glamourous job then. I enjoyed drama at school but where I live theatre is the only chance you get unless you can drive or are willing to relocate so decided not to take it further after I'd passed my exams for it.

Gone with the wind.
I don't know. I don't really take notice of what's popular as a lot of films I like others don't & vice versa. Though there have been times I've liked popular films like the King's speech & the theory of everything it's been few & far between.
